After more than 3 months of launching the Green Tree Nursery model, up to now, the branches of the Women's Union of Thuan Hung commune, Long My district have grown nearly 4,000 flower trees to serve the purpose of planting to create beautiful landscapes on rural roads.
The green tree nursery of the Women's Union of Hamlet 10 successfully propagated more than 1,000 cotton trees.
The Green Tree Nursery model was first launched in Hamlet 8, with 20 members. To implement the model, the Hamlet Women's Union coordinated with the hamlet government, hamlet unions and outstanding members to ask for flower seeds and set up a nursery.
After more than 3 months of implementation, up to now, about 1,000 cotton trees and night-blooming cereus trees have been planted; 50% of the seedlings have been planted along Xeo Can road in the hamlet.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien, Vice President of the Women's Union of Thuan Hung Commune, said: "Following the direction of the Commune Party Committee, the Union registered to implement the Green Tree Nursery model to help the locality reduce the cost of buying trees to plant on the roads to build beautiful roads in hamlets. To implement the model, each hamlet will receive 1 million VND from the commune to buy materials for tree planting, and women's union members will contribute working days to plant, plant and care for the trees."
According to the Women's Union of Thuan Hung Commune, currently, 3/5 hamlets of the commune have launched the Green Tree Nursery model. Each model has the active participation of 10-20 members, of which women members make up the majority. To date, the whole commune has planted about 4,000 cactus and cotton trees.
As one of the active members of the Green Tree Nursery model in Hamlet 10, Ms. Le Thi Chinh said: “Beautifying the landscape in front of the house is something my sisters and I really like. Before the Association launched the nursery model, we also asked for flower trees to plant in front of the house to beautify it. Now that the Association has launched the planting of the entire road, we like it even more. Therefore, when I was invited to participate in the tree nursery model, I was willing to participate immediately.”
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kha Ly, Head of the Women's Association of Hamlet 10, Head of the Hamlet Green Tree Nursery model, after launching the campaign, the members in the hamlet were very enthusiastic in supporting. Not only did the women actively participate, they also mobilized their husbands and children to support.
“Each person has a job from filling the soil, fertilizing pots, cutting branches, watering, spraying nutrients… After nearly 2 months of implementation, up to now, the hamlet nursery has multiplied 1,140 pots of white flowers and night-blooming cereus. The plants have now taken good root and are ready to be planted along the aquaculture route in the hamlet, about 2km long,” Ms. Ly added.
Currently, the Women's Union of Thuan Hung commune is continuing to direct the remaining hamlets to replicate the model to create more abundant tree resources for the commune in building beautiful roads, contributing to the locality's good implementation of environmental criteria in improving the quality of advanced new rural communes, moving towards building a model new rural area.
Compared to buying seedlings, growing plants yourself will help reduce costs significantly for the locality. If the average price of a flower pot is 10,000-15,000 VND/pot, each nursery established by the association only costs 1 million VND to grow 1,000 pots of plants.
“Not only do we promote the role of members and women in growing seedlings, but after the trees are planted on the roads, we also promote and mobilize women to take care of them, trim them to beautify the landscape, regularly clear weeds, and keep the entire road clean. Through this, we help women realize that this work not only beautifies their families but also their hamlets, creating an increasingly beautiful rural appearance thanks to the hands of women,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien, Vice President of the Women's Union of Thuan Hung Commune.
The women's tree nursery has received high consensus among cadres, members and women in Thuan Hung commune. Through this model, women have better promoted their role in participating in movements launched by the Association and the locality. Although the work is not too big, the beautiful flower roads in the commune were formed later thanks to the labor and meticulous and dedicated care of the women.
