Through this movement, many veteran members have upheld the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," demonstrating self-reliance and self-improvement, daring to think and act, boldly transforming production models, gradually rising out of poverty, achieving legitimate wealth, and contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality. In Xuan Khanh ward, former Son Tay town (now Tung Thien ward, Hanoi), one of the outstanding examples is veteran Du Van Thoi, Head of the Veterans Association Branch in residential area No. 5.

The soldier returned with the dream of becoming wealthy in his homeland.

The Veterans Association of residential area No. 5, formerly Xuan Khanh ward (now Tung Thien ward), has been a leading unit in the "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities" emulation movement for many years. The association has always clearly defined the purpose, meaning, and importance of the movement, and has implemented it extensively among its members and cadres with appropriate and practical content and measures. During the association's implementation, many exemplary individuals have emerged, among whom veteran Du Van Thoi is a prime example, leading the way in developing his family's economy, actively sharing his experience, and assisting members and people in the area.

Not only is Mr. Thoi an active and responsible branch chairman, but he is also someone who constantly ponders how to both develop his family's economy sustainably and contribute to the branch's successful completion of its tasks, building a stronger and more robust organization.

Mr. Du Van Thoi enlisted in the army, served, and returned to his hometown in 1982 after completing his military service. Leaving the army, carrying with him the diligence, hard work, and determination of a soldier, he started a family and dedicated himself to agricultural production in his hometown. Like many other farmers, his dream at that time was simple: to have a stable livelihood, rise out of poverty, and gradually become wealthy on his family's land.

However, before their dream could come true, climate change and prolonged heavy rains caused serious landslides in their living area. In 2001, following a decision by the Prime Minister , his family and many other households in the area had to relocate to a new place for safety. The change in residence, farmland, and living conditions brought countless difficulties and challenges to his family's life.

Upon moving to their new residence at 25, Alley 102, Da Bac Street, Residential Area 5, former Xuan Khanh Ward, Mr. Thoi's family was allocated 2,852 square meters of land. For many, this was both an opportunity and a great challenge, as they had to start almost from scratch. With determination, Mr. Thoi did not lose heart but saw this as a condition to build a new, more sustainable economic model.

From the very beginning, he and his family developed a comprehensive plan, clearly zoning each area: a place for perennial crops, a place for short-term crops, and a place for livestock and poultry farming. He applied the principle of "using short-term gains to support long-term growth," intercropping, increasing crop yields, and combining farming with animal husbandry to maximize the use of available land and resources.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a continuous learning spirit, his family's economic model gradually took shape and developed. From just a few initial crops and livestock, his farm has now become a comprehensive economic model with a diverse production structure.

The integrated economic model yields high efficiency.

Currently, Mr. Du Van Thoi's family maintains a herd of three breeding cows, producing approximately three calves annually, each valued at 15-20 million VND. In addition, he raises Dong Tao chickens, producing 250-300 kg of chicken meat per year, and supplying hundreds of high-quality chicks to the market. Furthermore, his family also raises hybrid wild boar pigs, supplying dozens of piglets and market pigs each year.

Alongside livestock farming, Mr. Thoi focuses on developing orchards, timber trees, and short-term crops suitable for the local soil. Thanks to scientific and proper care, his family's orchards consistently yield harvests seasonally, ensuring a stable income throughout the year.

In particular, he utilizes all the manure from livestock and poultry to make organic fertilizer for his crops, reducing production costs while protecting the environment. Thanks to sustainable economic development, his family earns hundreds of millions of dong annually, and their lives are becoming increasingly stable and prosperous.

Not only focused on enriching his family, Mr. Du Van Thoi was always clearly aware of his responsibility to the community and the Association. He shared: "Striving to overcome difficulties, rise out of poverty, achieve legitimate wealth, and help disadvantaged families improve their lives is the duty, responsibility, and quality of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army in peacetime."

With that in mind, for many years, he has regularly visited and encouraged veteran association members' families and households in difficult circumstances; wholeheartedly shared his experience in production and livestock farming; and provided seedlings and livestock to households lacking capital and technical skills. Many members of the Association in Residential Area No. 5 have learned from his model, gradually improving their income and stabilizing their lives.

As the Branch Chairman, he consistently set a good example, demonstrated responsibility, actively participated in the Association's activities, encouraged members to strictly adhere to the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and participate in patriotic emulation movements launched by the locality.

Spreading the positive values of the movement.

The practical example of veteran Du Van Thoi's economic model shows that, with willpower, determination, and the right approach, veterans can absolutely rise to prosperity in their homeland. His success not only brings a comfortable life to his family but also contributes to spreading the spirit of self-reliance, self-improvement, and solidarity in helping each other develop economically within the community.

Upholding the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," veteran Du Van Thoi has gradually overcome difficulties, built an effective integrated economic model, achieved sustainable poverty alleviation, and become a shining example in the "Veterans helping each other reduce poverty and excel in economic activities" movement of Tung Thien ward. This is a typical example that deserves to be commended and replicated, contributing to building a stronger Veterans Association and making a positive contribution to the development of the locality.

Besides the economic benefits, the model developed by veteran Du Van Thoi also has practical significance in guiding sustainable agricultural production in the locality. In reality, the harmonious combination of crop cultivation and livestock farming not only helps his family proactively manage their income and mitigate risks from market fluctuations, but also contributes to protecting the ecological environment. His approach of utilizing agricultural by-products, using organic fertilizers, and minimizing waste has been adopted and applied by many veteran association members and residents in the neighborhood.

In particular, with the sense of responsibility of a Veterans Association official, Mr. Thoi is always ready to open his farm to members and local people for visits and exchange of experiences. He directly guides them from seed selection, care, disease prevention and control to cost calculation and product output. Many successful economic models of veteran members in Tung Thien ward have been formed from these sincere exchanges and sharing sessions.

During branch meetings, Mr. Thoi always incorporated content promoting household economic development, encouraging members to boldly change their crop and livestock structures to suit local conditions. Through this, the "Veterans Helping Each Other Reduce Poverty and Excel in Economic Activities" movement has become increasingly profound, creating a positive ripple effect in the community.

With his enduring and practical contributions, veteran Du Van Thoi deserves to be a source of spiritual support and a shining example for members and the younger generation to follow, continuing to uphold the glorious traditions of the Vietnam People's Army in the new era.
