Tan An village, Dong Tho commune (Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province), with 151 households and 786 inhabitants, is a shining example in Tuyen Quang of determination to overcome difficulties, unity, and joint efforts to escape poverty. All of this is thanks to the people-friendly policies of the Party and State; the determined and close involvement of all levels of government, from the province to the grassroots, who, undeterred by hardship, have gradually persuaded people to abandon outdated customs and superstitions; and to resist the incitement of malicious individuals…
We visited the home of Mr. Ly Van Phung (53 years old) - Head of the Front Committee, Pastor, and a respected figure in Tan An village. On the walls of his house, nearly 20 Certificates of Merit and Commendations from various levels of government, awarded for his contributions to the cause of national unity and the construction of new rural areas, are proudly displayed as a reminder of the kindness and trust that the villagers and the government have placed in him.
Tan An village was chosen by the commune as a pilot site to implement a new funeral practice: when someone dies, there are no lavish feasts or expensive ceremonies involving priests. As a pastor, Mr. Phung visits the bereaved families, performs religious ceremonies, and then takes the deceased to the burial site without charging any fees. Because of this compassionate heart, he is always trusted by the villagers; they believe what he says and follow his example.
Mr. Ly Van Phung shared that, with the help of the Party, the State, and the government, the people have understood and followed the Party's guidelines. The National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (National Target Program 1719) has helped people gradually overcome difficulties, and many households have escaped poverty and are now living comfortably. Currently, nearly 100 people from the village are working as factory workers in the Phuc Ung industrial zone (Son Duong district), Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc , etc., earning salaries ranging from 7-10 million VND per person per month. This main source of income is helping many families in the village have a more prosperous life.
In 2022, the Fatherland Front of Tuyen Quang province supported Tan An village with 50 breeding cows. Thanks to their diligence and hard work, the households that received the support have focused on caring for the cows, and now the herd is thriving, increasing by more than 30 cows, promising to bring significant income to many poor households. In August, Project 1, under the National Target Program 1719, phase I (2021-2030), also provided Dong Tho commune with 60 stainless steel water tanks to distribute to disadvantaged households, ensuring access to clean water for daily use and food safety. Many households in Tan An village have also received water tanks under the Project's decentralized water supply support program.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Son Duong District, from 2022 to the present, financial support has been provided to people to implement models aimed at improving livelihoods, awareness, education level, and gender equality; prioritizing the allocation of national target program funds to Tan An village because it is a village with 100% Mong ethnic minority population, a large population, and economic difficulties. The aspiration of the entire political system and the Mong people here is to soon overcome poverty and backwardness, gradually move towards having solid houses, a prosperous and happy life.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tham, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Tuyen Quang province, said that with the motto "leaving no one behind," the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee and the districts have intensified propaganda work and skillfully and persistently mobilized efforts to fundamentally change the thinking, awareness, and actions of ethnic minority people. Through the comprehensive, practical, and effective implementation of National Target Program 1719, Tuyen Quang has replicated exemplary models of poverty alleviation, encouraged self-reliance, and created positive motivation for all people to work together to build prosperous and happy families and increasingly beautiful and thriving villages.
