Located in the northern part of Thai Nguyen province, Thanh Mai commune was established by merging three communes: Thanh Mai, Thanh Van, and Mai Lap. It has a total natural area of over 111 square kilometers, comprising 20 villages with more than 7,350 inhabitants. Currently, the commune has 347 poor households and 257 near-poor households.

Mr. Ha Duc Duc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Mai commune and Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Thanh Mai commune, said: "Identifying this as a key task with profound humanitarian significance, the commune has been making efforts to implement it. The Steering Committee has held meetings and devised specific solutions tailored to the practical realities of each village and household to accelerate progress and strive for completion according to plan. For each citizen, a house is not just a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also a warm home and an important foundation for life."

Ms. Nong Thi Lieu, from Hop Thanh village, one of the recipients of the house-building support, could not hide her emotion: "Our circumstances are very difficult; we are classified as near-poor, so my whole family has lived in a dilapidated, cramped house for many years. Every rainy season, we are filled with anxiety. Although according to custom, we do not build a house after a death in the family, following the government's policy, my family started building a house with the support of the local authorities."

In Thanh Mai commune, there are 144 households with approved decisions to be eligible for temporary housing demolition, of which 138 households have registered to participate. Currently, 48 households have completed the process; 89 households have started construction; and 2 households have committed to starting construction before July 15th.

Determined to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses as planned, Thanh Mai commune recently launched a month-long campaign to provide labor support for the demolition of temporary and dilapidated houses. "To complete the plan, besides the efforts of the government, the cooperation and solidarity of the people, businesses, and philanthropists inside and outside the commune are essential," added Mr. Ha Duc Duc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Mai commune.

With the decisive involvement of the Steering Committee, the unity of the people, and the high determination of the commune's leaders, the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses as planned in Thanh Mai commune will soon become a reality, bringing a better life to the people here.
