Venomous snakes are causing concern for European teams. Photo: Reuters . |
According to Bild , the German national team recently discovered a copperhead snake near their headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This venomous snake is quite common in the area.
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich said he was warned that if bitten by this type of snake, the victim needs to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Although not a direct threat to life, the Bayern Munich star admitted he is always on alert when outdoors.
"In Germany, you only need to worry about tactics, injuries, or the next opponent. But here, you also have to think about whether there's something lurking in the grass," Kimmich shared.
Not only the German team, but the Swiss team also had to mark a separate area at their San Diego training camp as a "snake zone" to warn team members. Meanwhile, the Norwegian team is also based in North Carolina, a state considered to have a relatively high density of copperhead snakes.
Although no unfortunate incidents have occurred yet, the issue of venomous snakes at training camps is becoming a major headache for European teams participating in the 2026 World Cup.
