The people of Sưng hamlet, Cao Sơn commune (Đà Bắc district) are developing community tourism while preserving traditional crafts.
"Previously, growing rice and corn was just enough to feed ourselves. Since receiving guidance from the commune, people have learned to grow ginger and raise livestock in a systematic way, and their lives have become much more prosperous!" - shared Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy, a ginger farmer in Son Phu hamlet, Cao Son commune.
According to data from the Cao Son Commune People's Committee, this year's spring crop saw the entire commune planting 70 hectares of rice with varieties such as Thien Uu 8, TBR225, DS1, JO2... The area planted with corn reached 440 hectares, mainly high-yielding hybrid corn varieties. Ginger was identified as one of the key crops with an area of 483 hectares. "We determined that agriculture remains the spearhead in the commune's economic development. To improve productivity and income for the people, the commune actively encouraged farmers to change the crop structure, introduce new varieties into production, and at the same time provide guidance on cultivation techniques and pest control," said Mr. Ban Van Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Cao Son Commune People's Committee.
Not only has agriculture progressed, but livestock farming in Cao Son has also made significant strides. Livestock and poultry are cared for, disease prevention and control are ensured, risks are minimized, and economic efficiency is improved, helping people increase their income. In addition, the commune focuses on developing small-scale industries, trade, and services. Fragrant corn liquor distilleries, traditional vermicelli factories, and wood processing facilities are contributing to job creation and increased income for the people.
The improving economic conditions have led to positive changes in culture and society. Cultural and sports activities are organized in conjunction with major national holidays and anniversaries, attracting large numbers of people and contributing to strengthening solidarity among ethnic communities. The preservation of traditional cultural identity is given attention, especially the languages, costumes, and distinctive festivals of the Muong and Dao ethnic groups.
In the first quarter of 2025, the commune focused on implementing comprehensive solutions for socio-economic development while ensuring social security for ethnic minority communities. The commune conducted a review and assessment of the living conditions of households to provide timely support. Of these, 9 households were approved for housing support under Program 134, ensuring that the assistance was provided to the correct beneficiaries and on schedule.
Healthcare, education, and poverty reduction efforts continue to be implemented effectively. Since the beginning of the year, the commune's health station has provided examinations and treatment to nearly 700 people; disseminated information on disease prevention and control, and food safety to 100% of the hamlets. The student attendance rate remains stable...
Through the implementation of resolutions, mobilizing people for production, resolving complaints and denunciations, and focusing on mass mobilization work, listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the people, and promptly resolving grievances and conflicts within the community, consensus and unity of purpose have been created among the people in the construction of new rural areas. By the end of 2024, the average per capita income of the entire commune reached over 42 million VND/year, and the poverty rate decreased to nearly 11%.
Comrade Ban Van Xuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Son commune, added: In the coming time, the commune will continue to integrate state support programs and projects, while developing internal resources and exploiting the potential and strengths of the locality to gradually increase income, improve people's lives, and maintain the criteria of a new rural commune.
