Vinh Chau commune is straining to cope with the floods.

Vinh Chau commune is one of the low-lying areas in the Dong Thap Muoi region of Tay Ninh province. Rising floodwaters threaten thousands of hectares of rice fields, and some fruit orchards have also been damaged.

4.5 hectares of jackfruit trees belonging to a household in Vinh Chau commune were submerged by floodwaters.

A family in Vinh Chau commune had 4.5 hectares of jackfruit trees, planted over 15 months ago and ready to bear fruit, submerged by floodwaters. Although the family proactively reinforced the dikes to protect the trees, they were forced to give up due to the pressure of the rising water, resulting in losses of billions of dong.

Mr. Do Minh Sang (Vinh Chau commune) said: “My family proactively reinforced the dike, but the water level rose quickly. Around 2 AM on October 9th, a section of the dike broke, submerging over 3,000 jackfruit trees. After the incident, my family tried to repair the broken section of the dike and hired more than a dozen pumps to drain the water and save the jackfruit trees. About 5 days later, when the water had almost completely receded, another section of the dike broke, and my family had no choice but to give up.”

According to information from the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune, as of now, the commune has nearly 6,600 hectares of rice for the Autumn-Winter 2025 crop, aged 20 to 40 days, and more than 1,300 hectares of rice for the Winter-Spring 2025-2026 crop, aged 10 to 15 days.

Most of the dikes in the commune have overflow sections, which farmers have reinforced themselves, basically ensuring a height of 20-40cm, with a total length of over 120km. Of these, the longest affected dikes are the June 1st dike (6.6km), the T1 dike (14km), and the T2 dike (14km).

In particular, in recent days, the rapidly rising water level has caused a section of the dike to break and many other sections to be flooded. Local authorities have mobilized forces and equipment in coordination with the people to promptly repair the damage, reducing losses to hundreds of hectares of rice fields.

Local authorities promptly mobilized vehicles and personnel to repair the breached sections of the dike and protect the rice crops.

According to Mai Van Cam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune, due to prolonged heavy rain and storms last week, the water level rose rapidly. In response, the local authorities assigned permanent militia forces, police, and local cooperatives and residents to mobilize 13 excavators to reinforce the dike system to protect the area. Looking ahead, with the flood situation expected to remain complex, the local authorities will assign officers to specific areas, divide teams to monitor the dikes, and deploy heavy machinery throughout the hamlets to proactively address any incidents that may occur.

Currently, the authorities and people of Vinh Chau commune are closely monitoring the developments of the rain and floods in order to take appropriate measures to respond when incidents occur and minimize damage.
