From the beginning of June, unleaded gasoline in Vietnam will have to undergo a blending process to become E10 gasoline for use in gasoline engines nationwide, as stipulated in Article 4 of Circular 50/2025. Simultaneously, E5 gasoline will continue to be blended for use in gasoline engines until December 31, 2030.
E5 gasoline is in high demand.
As mentioned in a previous article by Tri Thức - Znews , E5 gasoline is still sold alongside E10 gasoline, but it's not very common. This type of gasoline is only available at a few specific gas stations.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hoang Tu (64 years old) said he is still looking for a place to buy E5 bioethanol fuel for his Honda Citi 100, which he bought more than 30 years ago.
"This is a brand-new, imported vehicle, not distributed through an official dealer, and the owner's manual has been missing for quite some time, so I'm not sure if my Honda Citi is compatible with E10 gasoline," Mr. Hoang Tu explained his reason for buying E5 gasoline.

He said he sought help at a nearby repair shop and was advised to use up the remaining gasoline in the tank, then have the car inspected before refueling with E5 RON 92.
"The mechanic advised me to fill up with E5 RON 92 gasoline because this is a fairly old car. However, I've tried searching at many gas stations near my house and haven't found any that sell this type of gasoline," said Mr. Hoang Tu.
According to the TCCS 06:2026/PLX standard published by Petrolimex , E5 gasoline is defined as unleaded gasoline blended with fuel ethanol at a ratio of 4% to less than 7.5% by volume. This standard states that finished E5 bio-gasoline can have an octane rating ranging from RON 92 to RON 97.
This type of gasoline is recommended for older motorcycles that use carburetors. For example, Yamaha once advised owners of motorcycles with carburetors manufactured before 2017 to use E5 RON 92 gasoline instead of E10 gasoline.
E5 gasoline is still not easy to buy.
Two weeks after officially ceasing the sale of conventional gasoline across the entire petroleum distribution system in Vietnam, a survey by Tri Thuc - Znews shows that E10 gasoline has been widely adopted, but E5 gasoline has not yet been similarly implemented.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Comeco gas stations are a popular destination for customers looking to refuel their motorbikes with E5 gasoline.
Observations at a Comeco gas station in Vuon Lai ward (Ho Chi Minh City) show that quite a few motorcyclists are choosing to fill up with E5 gasoline instead of E10. Some customers choose E5 for scooters and common motorcycles, while others ride motorbikes into the station and request to fill up with this bio-fuel.
This gas station sells both E10 RON 95-III bioethanol fuel and E5 RON 92-II bioethanol fuel to customers.

Moving to another gas station belonging to the Saigon Petro system in Cho Quan ward (Ho Chi Minh City), the reporter noticed that the price list included a section for E5 RON 92 gasoline.
However, this type of gasoline does not have a price tag, while other fuels such as E10 RON 95 gasoline, DO 0.05S diesel, and DO 0.001S diesel all have listed prices. When asked about E5 gasoline, the staff at this gas station said that it is currently not available for sale.
Observations show that many gas stations belonging to the Petrolimex and Hiep Que systems in Ho Chi Minh City do not yet sell E5 gasoline. At these stations, E10 RON 95-III gasoline is the most common, with some locations also selling E10 RON 95-V gasoline.
Following the most recent price adjustment, E5 RON 92 bioethanol fuel is currently listed at 21,330 VND/liter. E10 RON 95-III fuel, which is quite popular at many gas stations, is priced at 22,060 VND/liter, while E10 RON 95-V fuel is priced at 22,960 VND/liter. Bioethanol fuel has undergone three consecutive price reductions since the end of May.
