Building raw material areas associated with value chain linkage

Việt NamViệt Nam26/05/2024

Along with effectively implementing land consolidation and concentration linked to efficient crop restructuring, many localities in the province have focused on forming raw material areas associated with attracting processing enterprises. This has not only contributed to the formation and development of sustainable raw material areas for manufacturing businesses but also increased income for local people.

Developing raw material areas linked to value chain integration. Cucumber production is concentrated in Truong Xuan commune (Tho Xuan district) and linked with production and product consumption agreements.

After taking root in the hilly areas, passion fruit is no longer unfamiliar to the people of Lang Chanh, Nhu Xuan, Ngoc Lac, and Nong Cong districts. Observing the actual growth of this introduced crop, the people assess it as a suitable plant for hilly areas, especially those with moderate slopes, where the plant thrives. After a trial planting period, 1 hectare of passion fruit is currently yielding a revenue of 240 million VND/hectare/year. Importantly, most of the passion fruit cultivation area in these localities is under contract with T9 Agricultural Products Import-Export Co., Ltd., which guarantees product purchase. Accordingly, households invest 30% of the initial capital, with the remaining 70% being gradually repaid by the company each year. After each harvest, the company provides input materials and supports and supervises the planting and care techniques for the farmers.

Ms. Le Thi Hau, one of the households that boldly converted unproductive hillside land to passion fruit cultivation in Tri Nang commune (Lang Chanh district), said: “When encouraged and supported by the commune, my family partnered with T9 Agricultural Products Import-Export Co., Ltd. to plant 300 passion fruit trees. The company purchases all the produce at market price. In the event that the passion fruit does not yield a harvest despite planting and caring for it according to the company's technical instructions, the company will compensate the people for all the investment costs. Therefore, we have great confidence and peace of mind in production.”

Reportedly, the passion fruit growing area of T9 Agricultural Products Import-Export Co., Ltd. has begun harvesting; many potential localities such as Thach Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Cam Thuy, Thuong Xuan... have also been conducting trial plantings, promising to form a large raw material area to meet the processing needs of the enterprise.

Developing raw material areas linked to value chain integration. Passion fruit plants on the hills of Tri Nang commune (Lang Chanh).

To develop raw material sources for processing activities, localities in the province have formed and expanded production areas such as: high-quality rice, sweet corn, tea, Keo mango, passion fruit, medicinal herbs, green ramie, etc., creating conditions to attract businesses to invest in advanced and deep processing; building production linkage models along the closed value chain. Currently, there are many successful value chain linkage models such as T9 Agricultural Products Import-Export Co., Ltd. linking to build raw material areas for Keo mango and passion fruit; pineapple processing factories linking to purchase products from pineapple raw material areas; forest product processing factories and vegetable, fruit, and food processing facilities... In addition, it is worth mentioning the cassava raw material production linkage chains in many localities in the province such as Ngoc Lac, Thuong Xuan, Nhu Xuan, Ba Thuoc, Nong Cong... with an area of 13-15 thousand hectares each year. In addition, some cassava starch processing plants have proactively invested in developing raw material areas, such as Nhu Xuan Agricultural and Forestry Products Export Processing Company Limited, Phuc Thinh Cassava Starch Processing Plant, etc.

Not only has it achieved high economic efficiency and resolved the problem of "bumper harvests leading to price drops," but to meet the demands of businesses, the area planted with crops for processing is mostly concentrated, in line with the province's agricultural development orientation linked to processing. Therefore, in the coming time, localities will continue to research, review, and select key crops suitable to the climate, soil, and farming conditions to form concentrated raw material production areas. In addition, they will apply science and technology, focusing on planting new varieties to improve productivity and quality, thereby controlling the input raw material supply... thereby attracting businesses to link production and consumption along the chain, increasing income for the people. At the same time, they will continue to maintain and expand the area and productivity of existing raw material areas; encourage and support people to establish cooperatives and associations to act as a bridge in linking farmers with businesses for product consumption.
