Under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, each house eligible for new construction will receive financial support of 60 million VND, while houses eligible for repair will receive 30 million VND. Each completed house brings joy, motivation, and optimism to poor and disadvantaged households, encouraging them to strive for sustainable poverty alleviation and contributing to the effective implementation of social welfare policies in the province.
In My Tu district, during the 2024-2025 period, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district closely coordinated with local departments and organizations to build and hand over 536 houses with a total cost of over 28 billion VND. This included 17 solidarity houses, each valued at 50 million VND, and 519 houses under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, comprising 389 newly built houses and 130 renovated houses. Sharing about the achievements, Ms. Tran Thi Nuong, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of My Tu district, said: “We identified this as a key task requiring decisive action from the local government and the consensus of the people. Thanks to the coordinated efforts between communes and towns and the support of organizations, the program has yielded clear results, helping many households confidently improve their lives.”

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Soc Trang province has had a widespread impact. Since its launch, thousands of houses have been newly built or renovated with the "three solid" criteria: solid foundation, solid walls, and solid roof. Ms. Lam Thi Lien, residing in Cau Don hamlet, Huynh Huu Nghia town, My Tu district, said that for many years, she had lived in a dilapidated house that was severely degraded. Every time it rained or was windy, it leaked from all sides, leaving her constantly in a state of insecurity. Now, with the support of the State and various organizations in building a new, spacious house, she feels very happy, excited, and more secure in her life. Ms. Lien emotionally shared: "Before, I was very worried during the rainy season, with water splashing everywhere. Now that I have a new house with solid walls and a secure roof, I feel much more at ease. I am very grateful to the Fatherland Front at all levels for helping my life turn a new page."
The program is being implemented synchronously throughout the province, not just in My Tu. After review, Soc Trang province plans to support the construction and repair of a total of 8,917 houses for poor households, near-poor households, policy beneficiary families, and households facing housing difficulties under the national target program. The total estimated cost is over 463 billion VND. It is expected that by June 30, 2025, all districts, towns, and cities will have completed the construction, repair, and commissioning of 8,917 houses for policy beneficiary families, poor households, near-poor households, and households under the national target program facing housing difficulties in the province.

It is commendable that, in addition to the financial support from organizations and individuals, and the daily wage contributions from officials, civil servants, and members of the armed forces, there has also been the active participation of various mass organizations. In particular, volunteer teams of youth union members have assisted over 200 households with practical actions such as dismantling old houses, transporting materials, and leveling foundations, with a total estimated value of over 920 million VND in labor contributions. Along with youth union members, the provincial armed forces have also played a significant role in social welfare activities. The Provincial Military Command and its subordinate units have mobilized over 2,000 officers and militia members to participate in the construction and repair of over 2,000 houses for the people.
Not content with just contributing labor, many organizations and associations actively mobilized funds and materials to support the households. The Provincial Veterans Association took advantage of support from the central government to build one house worth 100 million VND and mobilized members to help build 35 more houses. The Provincial Women's Union coordinated with relevant units to implement many practical assistance activities such as: dismantling old houses, transporting materials, cooking for workers, providing rice, drinking water, electric fans, food, etc. As of May 2025, 537 cadres and members had participated, contributing 1,468 working days, donating 755 kg of rice, 24 electric fans, and essential goods to the people.
Beyond the impressive statistics, what is even more valuable is the spread of faith and hope among the people. Each completed house not only provides people with a place to live but also opens up opportunities for a better life. The radiant smiles and hopeful eyes are proof of the program's practical effectiveness. People have stable housing, can work with peace of mind, take care of their children's education, and thus gradually rise out of poverty sustainably.
