Ms. Lam Thi Phen, one of the households with a long-standing association with the weaving profession in Phuoc Quoi Hamlet, Phu Tan Commune, shared: “Following the guidance of the Cooperative, we make weaving products according to market demand. Thanks to the increased value of the products, our income has improved in recent years. In addition to household and consumer goods, the Cooperative also produces many products as gifts, becoming an attractive sightseeing and shopping destination for tourists, thereby helping local people have regular jobs and gradually improve their economic life.”

Ms. Truong Thi Bach Thuy - Director of Thuy Tuyet Bamboo and Rattan Cooperative said that the Cooperative is aiming to link production, business, tourism development and services among households, thereby gradually enhancing the value of the craft village. This not only preserves traditional crafts, creates stable income for many families but also helps members access new knowledge about production and develop skills in community tourism.

Also developing sustainably with the weaving profession, Huong Lien Cooperative in My Binh Commune, Nga Nam Town not only preserves the traditional craft but also brings weaving products from water hyacinth far away, bringing a prosperous life to many households. Huong Lien Cooperative was established in the context of water hyacinth weaving in Nga Nam mainly being produced on a small scale, facing difficulties in finding markets. When the Cooperative was established, it gathered members, organized vocational training classes to attract a large number of people to learn the profession and process products. Currently, on average, the Cooperative collects about 13,000 products per week, meeting large orders well. Currently, Huong Lien Cooperative has created jobs for nearly 500 households in My Binh Commune and neighboring areas, directly contributing to the local poverty reduction work.

In Phu Loc town, Thanh Tri district, Cong Dien agricultural cooperative is a typical example of helping members and farmers overcome difficulties and escape poverty. In 2019, the cooperative started with only 9 members, now the cooperative has 36 members, with a rice cultivation area of 102 hectares. According to Mr. Ngo Kim Quang - Director of Cong Dien Agricultural Cooperative, the cooperative focuses on producing ST24, ST25 and Japanese rice to supply to key customers, mainly in Long An province. Thanks to the members always promoting the spirit of solidarity, cooperation in production and applying scientific and technical advances to the fields, the rice yield of each crop is of good quality. On average, each year, the cooperative earns a profit of more than 200 million VND from buying and selling rice and agricultural materials. According to the plan, the cooperative will develop to 50 members, expand the cultivation area, and promote product consumption linkages.

Ms. Quan Thi Thanh, a member of Loc Dien Agricultural Cooperative, said that before joining the cooperative, her family's rice productivity was not high, and her family's life sometimes faced difficulties. After joining the cooperative, Ms. Thanh was trained in modern, scientific farming techniques, purchased preferential agricultural materials, had a source of quality fertilizer, and during the harvest season, the cooperative purchased rice at a stable price, sometimes higher than the market price. The rice crops this year were of good quality, so the family's economy improved. More than a year ago, Ms. Thanh's family built a new, spacious, and fully-furnished house. In the recent rice crop, Ms. Thanh's family's 5 hectares of rice "hit the jackpot", with a rice yield of 6.5 tons/ha, bringing in a profit of more than 400 million VND.

Not only in Chau Thanh, Thanh Tri, Nga Nam, but also in many other localities in the province, thanks to participating in cooperatives, the lives of many people have improved. For example, Long Phu, My Tu, and Cu Lao Dung districts are developing cooperatives for raising dairy cows, poultry, and civets. These cooperatives are effective in gathering households to support each other in terms of techniques, breeds, feed, disease prevention instructions, and finding consumption markets.

It can be said that in the local poverty reduction work, the effective operation of cooperatives in the province has contributed to promoting the local socio-economic development, reflecting the positive changes in the collective economic model in life. Comrade Thach Phuoc Tai - Vice Chairman of the Soc Trang Cooperative Union shared: "From the efforts to build and develop, the above-mentioned cooperative economic models have achieved many encouraging results. The common point of success is the close connection between members, boldly applying scientific and technological advances in production, proactively seeking consumption markets. Stable cooperatives will contribute to creating jobs for workers, contributing to poverty reduction in localities. Therefore, to further promote the role of cooperatives in poverty reduction, it is necessary to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to raise awareness of the role and benefits of participating in cooperatives, promoting the strength of the collective economic model for effective production and business".
