Join hands to build a warm home
Visiting Chau Thanh district in mid-June, we saw many new houses completed and handed over to poor and near-poor households. Solid roofs are not only a place to return to, but also a foundation for families to work with peace of mind, develop the economy , and move towards a stable and sustainable life.
In the new house that still smelled of paint, Mrs. Thach Thi Lan, residing in Phuoc Loi hamlet (Phu Tan commune) happily shared: “Previously, my whole family lived in a dilapidated thatched house, and during the rainy season we were worried about flooding and leaking roofs. With the government’s support to build a new house, I am really happy. With a solid house, I will try to work hard to escape poverty and provide my children with a proper education.”

Not only Mrs. Lan's family, Mrs. Thach Thi Xa Rinh, residing in Phuoc Hoa hamlet (Phu Tan commune), was cleaning quickly, her face radiant with joy. Welcoming us with a smile, Mrs. Rinh excitedly confided: "I am old and in poor health. Hearing that the State is supporting the construction of a new house, I was so happy that I cried. Before, every rainy season, the whole family was worried, the rain leaked everywhere, the wind blew and the walls shook. There were days when it rained heavily, she had to use basins to catch water everywhere, it was so miserable. Now I feel secure, I no longer have to fear the rain."
The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has been implemented synchronously and drastically by Chau Thanh district. With many mobilization solutions, the district has been supporting the construction and repair of 366 new houses for policy beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, with a total cost of more than 18 billion VND.
Comrade Lam Van Ut - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Thanh district said: "The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households is one of the key tasks identified by the district at the beginning of the year. This is a work that has both profound humanitarian significance and is a concrete step to realize the district's goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the process of building new rural areas".
Mobilizing the strength of the people
To achieve impressive results in the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, Chau Thanh district has synchronously deployed many solutions, in which, special attention is paid to the role of socio-political organizations, the Fatherland Front and the people.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Tan Commune Nguyen Huu Nguyen, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune has coordinated with the district's departments and branches to complete and put into use 63/63 houses. In addition, the commune People's Committee has coordinated with the People's Committee of the commune to support the construction of 4 houses from the "For the Poor" Fund from the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority Areas, with a total amount of 176 million VND; coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Thanh District to support the construction of a house for a household in particularly difficult circumstances with urgent housing needs from the "For the Poor" Fund of the district, worth 50 million VND. Each newly completed house is one more smile, one more family with a stable home, striving to make sure all disadvantaged households have a solid roof.
The implementation of the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses not only ensures progress but also focuses on quality and long-term effectiveness. The screening of subjects is carried out thoroughly and transparently, ensuring the right people and the right subjects.
According to comrade Lam Van Ut, the district will continue to mobilize all resources, promote propaganda work, and encourage organizations, individuals, and businesses to continue to accompany the locality in social security work. At the same time, the district also focuses on accurately reviewing difficult cases to support the right people, the right subjects, ensuring publicity and transparency. In addition, we also coordinate with relevant departments to support the livelihoods of households after receiving housing support, in order to help them have more opportunities to escape poverty sustainably and stabilize their lives.
The new houses are not only the result of a social security program but also a symbol of humanity, sharing and solidarity in the community in Chau Thanh district. These loving homes have been and are continuing to write beautiful stories about the tradition of “helping each other”, affirming the profound humanitarian spirit in the work of building new rural areas and sustainable development of the locality.
