This activity vividly demonstrates the precious tradition of "mutual support" of our nation, and has special significance, contributing to providing homes for war veterans, the poor, and vulnerable people in the district.

Helping many people in difficult circumstances.

After a traffic accident, Mr. Hoang Anh Dung (residing in Hoa Thanh hamlet, Ngoc Dinh commune) lost his ability to work and could only do light work to earn money to live and support his children's education. His income was so meager that he couldn't even dream of having enough money to repair his house, which barely provided shelter from the rain and sun.

In the final days of 2024, he was presented with a charitable house by the local government and benefactors. Although he has been living in his new home for several months, he is still emotional and can hardly believe his dream has come true.

Mr. Hoang Anh Dung expressed: “Previously, my family's house was very dilapidated and makeshift. In the dry season, we had to cover it with tarpaulin, and in the rainy season, it constantly leaked. Now, thanks to the local government and benefactors, my family has a house like this today. I am very happy and grateful to the local government and benefactors. This is a motivation for me to strive to overcome poverty and provide for my children's education.”

Local authorities in the district have mobilized organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and religious institutions in the area to join hands in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses through the construction of charity houses, houses of compassion, and Red Cross houses, thereby contributing to renovating and providing homes for those in difficult circumstances.

Similarly, Mr. Dieu Minh (residing in Hamlet 1, La Nga Commune) is raising his child, who is in the 3rd grade, alone. He works odd jobs, mostly seasonal work such as picking mangoes and doing construction work, to earn money to support his child and make ends meet. He lives in a makeshift house that doesn't provide adequate shelter from the rain and sun; it's made of wood with a corrugated iron roof and covered with tarpaulin.

Understanding Mr. Dieu Minh's difficult circumstances, philanthropists and local authorities provided him with 80 million VND to build a new, sturdy house for his family. Mr. Minh is one of the ethnic minority households in the area facing housing difficulties who received support for house construction.

Mr. Dieu Minh shared: “I am very happy to receive support in building a house. My income is only enough to get by day to day, I never dared to dream of having a house like this. I am truly happy and grateful to the local government and the sponsors for helping my son and me have a sturdy house where we no longer have to worry about rain and sun. I will try my best to maintain it and work even harder.”

The Định Quán District Party Committee has decided to strengthen and reorganize the Steering Committee for the implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the district (hereinafter referred to as the Steering Committee). The Steering Committee consists of 16 members, with the Secretary of the Định Quán District Party Committee, Nguyễn Cao Cường, as the Head of the Steering Committee.

Replicating the model

Demolishing temporary and dilapidated houses has become a widespread movement. This meaningful and humane endeavor not only contributes to improving people's lives but also serves as a driving force to further promote the tradition of mutual support and solidarity, building and strengthening national unity.

According to the People's Committee of Dinh Quan District, the locality has intensified its efforts in disseminating information, calling on and mobilizing agencies, units, businesses, organizations, and individuals to actively support the Movement to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in the district. Specifically, the District People's Committee has assigned relevant departments and agencies to coordinate with the People's Committees of communes and towns to regularly review and compile statistics on the number and housing needs of people with meritorious service to the revolution and relatives of martyrs, poor households, near-poor households, and people with difficult circumstances, as stipulated by regulations. Based on this, they will advise on the development of plans and propose measures and solutions to effectively implement the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the district.

The Red Cross Society of Dinh Quan district handed over a Red Cross house in Gia Canh commune.

In 2024 alone, Dinh Quan district built and renovated 125 charitable houses with a total value of 13.9 billion VND. Addressing housing needs for the people has always been a priority for the Party committees and local authorities in the district, and is considered a key task in ensuring social security and sustainable poverty reduction.

Chairman of Ngoc Dinh Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Manh Khoe, shared that in recent times, the locality has diversified its forms of support, mobilizing and calling on philanthropists to join hands in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. In addition, the locality has conducted thorough reviews and statistics through mass organizations in the hamlets, especially in remote areas. This helps the commune's Steering Committee for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses to accurately identify the number and list of cases needing house demolition, ensuring the correct target group for support in the area. At the same time, the locality will continue to call for resources to build and repair more new, spacious, and sturdy houses, contributing to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses and improving the lives of the people in the future.
