"Living green" is gradually becoming a trend in modern society, especially among young people. Through practical and meaningful actions, the youth of Vietnam are spreading the message of "living green" to the community, creating a positive social impact and affirming the role of the Youth Union in participating in environmental protection and building a civilized and modern city.

The "Anti-Plastic Waste" model, implemented by the Ha Hoa Town Youth Union in Zone 10, involves installing visual informational signs.
Practical actions
Meeting Mr. Ly Kim Loi on a summer morning in his family's lush, fruit-laden vineyard in Thu Cuc commune, Tan Son district, we were impressed by the gentle, down-to-earth Dao man with a kind smile and the story of the "green entrepreneurship" path he had chosen. In 2019, he brought the Ha Den grape variety to plant on the hills of Tan Son with the hope of getting rich on his homeland. After testing the soil's acidity and using techniques to neutralize it, he bought seedlings and built sturdy iron stakes with a nylon cover for the vines to climb, preventing them from collapsing during heavy rain and strong winds. He mainly used earthworm compost for both base and top dressing, so his Ha Den grapes thrived, producing large, juicy, and delicious fruit.
With his keen market sense, he has developed a production chain and cultivated organically to produce clean products that meet consumer preferences. From an initial 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) with over 400 Black Hạ grape vines, his farm now boasts over 1,000 vines across 7,000 square meters, growing two varieties: Black Hạ grapes and Korean milk grapes. Currently, each harvest yields over 3 tons of fruit, generating 600 million VND in revenue, becoming a prime example of a green startup, attracting numerous young people to visit and learn from his experience.
He shared: "Green entrepreneurship is a trend that is spreading strongly among young people. The common characteristic is that products from green startup models are very environmentally friendly, safe for health, and sustainably protect nature."
Flexibility and creativity in implementing activities are the highlights of what the youth of Ha Hoa have achieved, affirming their pioneering role in environmental protection. The District Youth Union has directed and guided local Youth Union branches to build teams and groups to participate in environmental protection work based on the characteristics and actual situation of their localities and units, especially in communes that are in the process of building and completing environmental criteria in the new rural development program.
Movements such as the "For a Green Vietnam" program, the "Fight Against Plastic Waste" campaign, and "Green Sunday" initiatives have been actively implemented, along with many practical and meaningful activities that create a clean and beautiful landscape in the area. Comrade Truong Nguyen Quan, Secretary of the Ha Hoa District Youth Union, stated: Due to actively monitoring environmental pollution hotspots and the practical needs of the locality and units, these activities have achieved positive results in both improving the environmental landscape and raising awareness among Youth Union members and the people.
Since the beginning of the year, the youth of Ha Hoa have built a "Plastic Waste Prevention" model with 10 signs made from recycled motorbike tires, displaying messages such as: "Say no to plastic waste," "Join hands to build a cultured and civilized urban life," etc., in Zone 10, Ha Hoa town; and a "Plastic Waste Reduction Market" model in Phuong Vien commune. They also organized two "Green Sunday" campaigns simultaneously in 20 communes and towns, with over 1,000 youth union members participating, cleaning 23 cemeteries and memorials; cleaning 25 village roads and alleys with a total length of nearly 100km; clearing 1.5km of waterways; and collecting nearly 1 ton of various types of waste.

The green startup model of Mr. Ly Kim Loi, Thu Cuc commune, Tan Son district, uses environmentally friendly organic products.
Spreading the "green living" movement
Recognizing environmental protection as a core, ongoing, and long-term movement, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has directed all Youth Union branches throughout the province to proactively and voluntarily register to undertake projects and tasks related to the needs and situation of their localities and units; actively organize activities to raise awareness among Youth Union members and the people about environmental protection and climate change adaptation through activities such as: taking responsibility for self-managed roads, building bright, green, clean, and beautiful agencies and units; establishing youth volunteer teams ready to participate in environmental protection activities, responding to "Green Sunday" with campaigns to clean up the environment. They also regularly post articles on the Youth Union's Fanpage and Facebook pages about environmental protection work...
Many Youth Union branches have also fostered the creativity of young people, using recycled materials such as motorcycle and car tires, wooden planks, bottles, cardboard, etc., to make slides, swings, seesaws, boards, and a variety of learning tools and toys for children. Using recycled materials to make toys for children not only creates a beneficial play space and limits the negative impact of excessive exposure to electronic devices, but also contributes to educating children about a "green lifestyle," protecting the environment, and creating positive values for the community and society.
"Living green" can be simply understood as a sustainable lifestyle, striving to change daily habits of individuals and society to minimize harmful factors to the environment, and further reduce negative impacts on the Earth, helping our planet stay "healthy". In response to this healthy lifestyle, the youth of Vietnam have been carrying out many meaningful activities, creating a strong ripple effect in the community with the shared desire to protect a green, clean, and beautiful environment.
With the motto "Every young person takes action, every Youth Union branch carries out practical activities to protect the environment," in the first six months of 2024, the youth of the ancestral land have carried out many tasks to help spread a "green lifestyle" widely, contributing to building a bright, green, clean, and beautiful environment.
A prime example is the "Green Sunday" initiative, with practical activities focused on the environment. Since the beginning of the year, the entire province has simultaneously organized campaigns in response to "Green Sunday," with the participation of thousands of young people in activities such as: planting and caring for trees, collecting waste on hundreds of rural and urban roads, clearing canals, and removing obstructions to traffic corridors... Raising awareness and encouraging people to dispose of waste in designated areas, maintain hygiene, and avoid littering... gradually forming a more civilized and responsible lifestyle towards the environment for each individual in society.
The "Volunteer Day for Building New Rural Areas and Green Sunday" campaign, implemented at the central level in Ban Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district, included various activities such as: inaugurating the "Youth Tree Planting" project, the "Lighting Up Rural Roads" project, and organizing waste sorting training for youth union members.
The entire province simultaneously launched the 2024 "Volunteer Day for Building Civilized Cities" campaign, with the provincial-level event taking place in Phu Tho town. The activity attracted a large number of youth volunteers who participated in repairing 13 "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful - Civilized - Safe" roads; planting and caring for 1,230 trees; removing illegal advertising and posters along 10.5km of urban roads; and raising awareness among residents about proper waste collection and disposal. Additionally, 210,500 new trees of various types were planted, greening many barren lands and hills throughout the province.
Comrade Dinh Thi Tuyet Mai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, said: The practical and meaningful activities of young people have made an important contribution to building the homeland of the Ancestral Land to be increasingly green, clean, and beautiful. To further improve the effectiveness of environmental protection work, in the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union will continue to maintain volunteer programs and activities associated with participating in building civilized urban areas, protecting the environment, and responding to climate change; promoting the implementation of the "Anti-Plastic Waste" movement, building green startup models...
