On the morning of May 24th, at the National Funeral Home - No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front solemnly held a memorial service for Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former member of the Politburo, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and former Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, according to the national funeral protocol.

In a moment of profound emotion and sorrow, from early morning, delegations from the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, cadres and soldiers of the armed forces, along with a large number of officials, Party members, and people from all walks of life in Hanoi and many provinces and cities across the country gathered at the Funeral Home area to attend the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong; expressing their gratitude and respect for the leader who dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese nation.

With profound sorrow, General Secretary To Lam wrote in the condolence book: “We deeply mourn the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong – a loyal Communist Party member, a dedicated and exemplary leader, an outstanding son of the heroic Quang Ngai homeland, rich in revolutionary traditions.”

Comrade Tran Duc Luong dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. In every position he held, he consistently demonstrated unwavering political acumen, impeccable moral character, a scientific and dedicated work ethic; and a simple, humble lifestyle, close to his comrades, friends, and the people… earning the respect of his comrades, friends, and the people.

His passing is a great loss to our Party, State, and people.

"We respectfully bow our heads in reverence to our comrade's spirit and extend our deepest condolences to his family."

Bidding farewell to former President Tran Duc Luong, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong wrote in the condolence book: “Comrade Tran Duc Luong was an outstanding leader of our Party and State, a shining example of dedication and wholehearted service to the Fatherland and the People. He devoted his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. His passing is a great loss to our Party, State, and People.”

We will forever remember your immense contributions. Although you are gone, the noble values ​​you left behind will forever be a source of inspiration for generations of cadres, Party members, and our people to continue steadfastly on the path of building a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic, prosperous, and civilized Vietnam.

In the condolence book for former President Tran Duc Luong, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh wrote: “We deeply mourn the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, an outstanding and steadfast leader of our Party, State, and People. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Comrade Tran Duc Luong for this painful loss.”

Comrade Tran Duc Luong, at the age of 88 and with 66 years of Party membership, dedicated his entire life to the revolutionary cause of our Party, State, and people.

Throughout his career and leadership of the country, he consistently demonstrated himself to be a leader with strategic vision, a deep understanding of reality, and who prioritized effectiveness as the highest measure of success.

His life, work, and contributions serve as a shining example for cadres, soldiers, and the people to follow.

Following the example of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, we pledge to do our utmost to contribute to the revolutionary cause of our Party and people, for the cause of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, justice, and civilization!”

With deep emotion, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man wrote: “We deeply mourn the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former Politburo member and former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He made immense contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.”

Throughout his revolutionary career, Comrade was trusted by the Party and the State and entrusted with many important responsibilities. Regardless of his position, he wholeheartedly served the Revolution and the People; he remained absolutely loyal to the Party.

The Party, the State, and the People of Vietnam will forever cherish the immense contributions of Comrade Tran Duc Luong. We respectfully pay our respects to his spirit. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and all relatives of the beloved Comrade Tran Duc Luong.

Leading the delegation from the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to pay respects to former President Tran Duc Luong, General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Political Bureau, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense, respectfully wrote in the condolence book: “The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense deeply mourn the passing of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former Member of the Political Bureau, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a respected leader of the Party, State, and People, a staunch communist party member who dedicated his life to the independence and freedom of the nation and the happiness of the people.”

Throughout his revolutionary career, he always paid special attention to the armed forces in general and the Vietnam People's Army in particular. Together with the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Military Commission, he formulated many policies and solutions for building the Army, strengthening national defense, and firmly protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

The Central Military Commission - Ministry of National Defense and all officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army always remember the contributions of Comrade, and pledge absolute loyalty to the Party, the State and the People, to unite in building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army, to successfully complete all assigned tasks in all situations, and to be worthy of Comrade's attention and the trust and love of the Party, the State and the People.

The Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and all officers and soldiers of the entire army respectfully offer their condolences to Comrade and express their deepest sympathies to his family.

His passing leaves behind immeasurable sorrow for the Party Committee, government, people, and armed forces of Hanoi, as well as the people of the whole country.

The Party Committee, government, people, and armed forces of the Capital City pledge to unite as one, strive diligently, and steadfastly advance on the revolutionary path, remaining firm in the goals and ideals chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, our predecessors, and comrades. We are determined to build a strong, democratic, prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam; and to build Hanoi, a cultured, civilized, and modern capital city, worthy of being the heart of the nation.

*Simultaneously with the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong at the National Funeral Home (Hanoi), solemn memorial services for former President Tran Duc Luong were also held at the Reunification Hall (Ho Chi Minh City) and the T50 Hall, Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, the hometown of Comrade Tran Duc Luong. Many expressions of sorrow and respect were recorded in the condolence book by delegates in remembrance of former President Tran Duc Luong.
