The Deep State channel, which is affiliated with the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine (GRU), said that the General Staff of the Ukrainian army has urgently dispatched four mobile reserve brigades to stop the Russian attack northeast of the city of Pokrovsk.

On August 11, the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) launched a surprise tactical offensive northeast of Pokrovsk. The force, which included the 132nd Motorized Rifle Brigade and several Donetsk militia units, used foot and all-terrain vehicles, almost entirely infantry; and made a breakthrough with a maximum depth of 18 km into the Ukrainian defense line.

The overall assessment is that the RFAF breakthrough was very successful, dealing a heavy blow to the Ukrainian defenses and preventing them from organizing effective resistance. However, such an attack also carried significant risks, namely creating opportunities for Ukrainian counterattacks.

The Deep State channel reported that four key brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), including the 12th Azov Brigade, the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, the 92nd Separate Special Forces Brigade, and the 93rd Kholodnyar Brigade, known as the strongest brigades of the AFU, participated in the counteroffensive campaign.

These units were supposed to be deployed on the Sumy and Kharkov fronts, but they suddenly appeared north of Pokrovsk and directly blocked the Russian commandos, surprising the RFAF commander. Thus, the AFU kept the deployment and movement of troops secret, giving them the element of surprise.
6-595.jpg According to Ukrainian and Western sources, the Ukrainian counterattack caused significant losses to Russian special forces. According to Ukrainian sources, about 600 Russian soldiers were killed, including about 400 killed and dozens captured, mainly from the 132nd Motorized Rifle Brigade and Donetsk militia units.

Of course, this is only information from the Ukrainian side, and the details have not yet been confirmed by Russia, nor verified by independent sources. However, authoritative sources say that the Ukrainian counterattack caused many difficulties for Russian special forces.

But according to independent experts, the AFU counterattack in the north of Pokrovsk (specifically, northeast of the town of Dobropolye) is losing momentum. According to the Readovka channel, Russian troops in the east of Dobropolye have successfully repelled all enemy counterattacks.

Despite the AFU General Staff launching a counteroffensive northeast of Pokrovsk, RFAF units continued to exert pressure on the breakthrough area, according to Russian Military Review. Local sources said that the AFU’s efforts to stabilize the front had inflicted serious losses on them.

According to monitoring sources, the Russian tactical air force is actively supporting the ground forces with FAB guided glide bombs. Meanwhile, the ground units are actively using fiber-optic-controlled FPV UAVs, combined with the Russian artillery advantage, to carry out accurate and intense fire attacks on Ukrainian positions.

All of the above hampered the counterattack operations of the 12th Azov Brigade, the 93rd Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 82nd Airborne Assault Brigade, the 1st, 210th and 425th Assault Brigades, forcing them to limit their local sorties. In addition, Ukrainian formations located 30-40 km west of the breakthrough point were also under attack.

It is important to note that the AFU General Staff has withdrawn reserve units from this area, and they will return to their permanent deployment area in very limited numbers. According to experts, this fact will certainly affect the stability of the front, where the aforementioned units have just launched a counterattack.

According to Ukrainian media, the RFAF has deployed a powerful force of up to 110,000 troops in the Pokrovsk region, and this force is constantly being reinforced. This explains why the situation of the AFU on the Pokrovsk front remains difficult and quite volatile.

Russia's Rybar channel reported that in one of the Russian breakthrough areas northeast of Pokrovsk, the AFU brought in a force of about two thousand troops. It is reported that about 150 Russian soldiers heroically resisted the attack of this force; however, the Russian troops were actively supported by ground and air fire.

It was previously reported that General Syrsky had been ordered to destroy the Russian breakthrough north of Pokrovsk at all costs. However, the AFU's push for a counteroffensive in the area has set off a confrontation on the battlefield ahead of ceasefire negotiations.

Ukraine’s strategic intentions are clear, with the massive counter-offensive launched on the eve of a meeting between President Zelensky and several European leaders with President Donald Trump in Washington on August 18. Victory on the battlefield has become Kiev’s most important bargaining chip.

“Of the nine Ukrainian brigades assembled in the direction north of Pokrovsk, three have a strength ratio of less than 60 percent,” said military analyst Myhaylo Sameli. “Although this comprehensive deployment temporarily restrained the Russian offensive, it exposed the deeper crisis of the AFU in terms of manpower shortages. Of course, the Ukrainian counteroffensive itself is a strategic game.” (Photo source: Military Review, Kyiv Post, TASS)
