Over the years, Hanoi has witnessed many outstanding students shining in the international intellectual arena. However, 2025 marks an unprecedented milestone: for the first time, a male student from a private school not only made it to Hanoi’s international Olympic team, but also won two medals in two different subjects. That person is Hoang Pham Minh Khanh – a 12G0 student at Newton Secondary and High School, a name that is becoming a new source of pride for the capital’s education .
Board of Directors, teachers and family welcome Minh Khanh after the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA)
If in 2023, Minh Khanh made his teachers, friends and family burst into happiness with the Silver Medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), then in 2025, the student continued to write a miracle when he won the Silver Medal at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad (IOAA). The two medals in two completely different fields - General Science and Astronomy - not only demonstrate his outstanding intelligence, but also reflect the Newtonian student's endless passion for knowledge.
Minh Khanh excellently won the Silver Medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2023.
Notably, at both international Olympic competitions, Minh Khanh was the first and only private school student in Hanoi to be selected for the team. The fact that a Newton student continuously appeared and shone in the international arena has become a proud phenomenon, not only bringing glory to himself and his family, but also affirming the increasingly strong position of Newton Secondary and High School, a private school that has just completed 16 years of establishment and development.

Well-rounded students with a long list of achievements
When talking about Minh Khanh, many teachers call him "a well-rounded student". In addition to his special passion for Physics and Astronomy, Khanh is also good at Math, Chemistry, Biology, and English. His academic achievements are clear evidence: Second prize in the City's Excellent Student Math competition, Second prize in Science, Third prize in Chemistry for advanced levels, Third prize in City-level Math competition despite only being in grade 10 but competing with grade 12 students; Silver Medal in Physics at the 18th Hung Vuong Summer Camp in 2024,...
Hoang Pham Minh Khanh received a Certificate of Merit from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training at the Commendation Ceremony as a Typical Excellent Student of the Capital.
Not stopping there, in the 2024 National Excellent Student Competition, Minh Khanh continued to make his mark when he won the Second Prize in Physics - marking the first time a student from a private school participated and won the prize. For two consecutive years, he was honored as the Outstanding Excellent Student of the Capital. In any playground, from school level, regional level to international level, the name Minh Khanh is always associated with outstanding achievements, making friends admire and teachers extremely proud.

The turning point from the choice of "steering"
Few people know that in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year, Minh Khanh passed many specialized programs of prestigious schools: Math and Physics - Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Math and Chemistry - Natural Science High School. However, instead of choosing the "safe" path, Khanh and his family decided to "change direction" and enroll in the "scholarship hunting" class - 10G0 of Newton School. That seemingly bold decision opened up a memorable journey, so that today he affirmed his position on the international intellectual map.
Ms. Pham Minh - Minh Khanh's mother, emotionally shared: "The family was hesitant with many choices, but Newton convinced them with its modern, close-knit and humane educational model. Over the past two years, the school has not only helped my child develop his full learning ability but also trained his skills, foreign languages and courage. Newton is truly a launching pad for his talent."
Behind Minh Khanh’s medals and achievement plaques is a process of persistent study, personal effort, and dedicated guidance from Newton teachers. The school not only provides a modern learning environment, but also encourages students to explore, challenge themselves, and dare to conquer. From academic clubs, regional and national competitions to international arenas, Newton has always accompanied and given Khanh opportunities to shine.
