Prime Minister urgently directs: Respond to storm No. 5 with the highest spirit

On the evening of August 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 143/CD-TTg requesting ministries, branches and localities to focus on urgent response to storm No. 5 - a storm that is assessed to be very strong, has a wide range of influence and moves quickly, with the risk of making direct landfall in our country.

The telegram emphasized that in order to proactively prevent and combat storms and post-storm floods, ensure the safety of people's lives and minimize damage to state property, the Prime Minister requested leaders of ministries, branches, and chairmen of People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai not to be subjective or negligent, and to immediately deploy response measures with the most urgent and drastic spirit, especially in the context that the whole country is preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day.

The Prime Minister especially reminded the Secretaries and Chairmen of the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities - especially Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Hue city - where the storm is forecast to make direct landfall, to postpone meetings and work that are not really necessary, and mobilize the entire political system to focus on directing, inspecting and urging response work.

Localities should proactively ban the sea from August 24 based on specific developments, paying special attention to early bans to prevent storms and lightning from occurring before the storm makes landfall. At the same time, it is necessary to limit traffic during the storm's impact to ensure safety.

The Prime Minister requested localities to support people in reinforcing their houses, trimming trees, protecting dykes and dams, ensuring the safety of essential infrastructure and the supply of goods, and resolutely preventing the exploitation of natural disasters to unreasonably increase prices.

The Chief of Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee was assigned to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation, review response plans, and be ready to mobilize forces and means to support localities when necessary.
