Invest in product upgrades.

According to the Center for Agricultural Trade Promotion ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), the global handicraft and rural industry sector is experiencing strong growth with many trends. First and foremost, the trend towards sustainability and environmental friendliness is dominant as consumers become increasingly concerned about the impact of products on the ecosystem.

Consumers, especially in the world's high-end markets, seek products that offer an experience rooted in the cultural story behind each item. Custom-designed products or those deeply rooted in local identity allow customers to express their individuality while simultaneously creating an emotional connection with the user.

Capitalizing on this trend, the 5-star OCOP-certified baked coconut cake product of Quy Thu Production - Trading Co., Ltd. (Phu My village, Xuan Phu commune) has been exported and is present in demanding markets such as the US, Netherlands, Australia, Russia, Taiwan, and China…

Mr. Luong Van Phong, the company's trade promotion representative, said that in order to bring goods to the world market, the business has thoroughly researched the characteristics of the importing country's market, legal regulations, and technical standards.

In particular, the company has developed an effective marketing strategy, collaborating closely with international partners. The business has chosen its strengths as 5-star OCOP products to create a competitive advantage over rivals in the target market.

Thorough understanding of international trade laws, tariffs, and customs procedures of the importing country. Exported goods meet the quality standards and certifications of the international market.

Mr. Le Duc Thinh, Director of the Department of Cooperative Economics and Rural Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), believes that businesses and production facilities need to invest in modern and advanced technology and production processes to improve product quality and design. Along with that, design and packaging are also crucial. Attractive packaging designs that comply with the regulations of each market and reflect cultural identity are essential.

Rural industrial producers should take advantage of international trade fairs and exhibitions to showcase their products and find international customers and partners. In addition to direct trade promotion, they should utilize e-commerce platforms and international trading exchanges to promote their products and connect with partners.

Embrace new trends

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, focusing on trade promotion is key to opening the door to export markets for rural industrial products.

Experience from participating in numerous international rural industrial trade fairs has shown that consumers prefer products that stand out. Each product is not just an item but also tells a story about the culture, origins, and talent of its creator and craftsman. Despite the development of modern technology and artificial intelligence (AI), rural industrial products with their cultural identity hold a unique appeal.

In Da Nang city, rural industrial products such as Ngoc Linh ginseng, Cu Lao Cham bird's nest, agarwood, Tien Phuoc pepper, cinnamon, reishi mushrooms, codonopsis pilosula, and Tra My ba kích (a type of medicinal herb)... have gradually appeared and are becoming increasingly well-known in overseas markets.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that businesses, cooperatives, and rural industrial production facilities need to take advantage of free trade agreements, especially new generation FTAs such as CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement) and EVFTA (Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement) to expand export markets and bring goods to the world.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tien, to accelerate the export of rural industrial goods, businesses need to optimize their products. Cultural stories associated with the products need to be conveyed vividly and creatively, creating trends to attract attention.

Products need to be designed to meet practical needs, especially as gifts. Compact, convenient items that still retain a unique touch will be more easily accessible to the market.

The online market needs to be exploited; combining in-person experiences at trade fairs with online promotion through platforms like TikTok or livestreaming will help expand customer reach.

"Da Nang needs to strengthen communication about rural industrial products in the area through promotional campaigns on television, newspapers, digital platforms, and by integrating them into cultural, tourism, and diplomatic events. This will enhance the image of sophisticated, distinctive, and sustainable rural industrial products," Mr. Tien suggested.
