Sowing the seeds of the soul

Aiming to build a generation of young people who are comprehensively and sustainably developed in both knowledge and spirit, in addition to academic education, the cultivation of positive values ​​in thought, morality, and lifestyle is receiving increasing attention.

Learn to share

These days, the "House of Friendship" project – a gift from the Ban Thach ward youth group to the family of Le Thi Phuong Thao (a student in class 8/2, Le Loi Secondary School) – is nearing completion. Phuong Thao's family is facing financial difficulties; her parents do not have stable jobs. Their old house is dilapidated, but they lack the means to renovate it.

Following a survey, the Youth Union and Children's Council of Ban Thach ward launched a fundraising campaign, calling for contributions from 6 youth teams and all members in the area to help Phuong Thao's family have a new home. From this initiative, the youth teams implemented various fundraising activities such as: saving money in piggy banks, collecting and selling scrap materials to raise funds… In a short time, the "House of Friendship" project received 65 million VND in contributions from youth teams and members throughout the ward.

Representatives from the City Youth Council stated that Youth Union branches throughout the city have implemented numerous specific models to educate young people on ethics, lifestyle, compassion, and the spirit of sharing, such as: "Saving money in piggy banks to help poor friends," "Children sharing - Doing a thousand good deeds," the "Month of Good Deeds" movement, "Good deeds every day," sharing love with people with disabilities, victims of Agent Orange, etc.

Besides regularly maintaining charitable initiatives, during natural disasters, floods, and epidemics, the spirit of sharing continues to spread through many practical actions such as: collecting books and uniforms to donate to students in disadvantaged areas, contributing funds to help poor students, etc.

In particular, lifestyle education models for young people are becoming increasingly creative, practical, and multi-purpose. Among these, the "Small Project Bus - Waste Sorting, Fundraising to Help Friends" model, implemented by the City Youth Union since 2022 in primary schools, is noteworthy.

Through awareness campaigns, students gain a solid understanding of the knowledge and improve their awareness of sorting and collecting recyclable waste. Based on this model, tens of tons of recyclable waste are collected each year, which is then converted into funds for the "Pink Smile" program and scholarships for underprivileged students.

Integrating environmental education with acts of kindness helps students better understand the value of hard work and the spirit of mutual support. This, in turn, raises students' awareness and creates a sustainable ripple effect for a green lifestyle among young people.

Cultivating ideals

Launched in 2022, the "We Are Always By Our Mother's Side" model implemented by the Da Nang City Youth Union has practical significance in nurturing the ideology, morality, and patriotism of the younger generation. According to Le Cong Hung, Secretary of the Da Nang City Youth Union, the model is organized every two months at the homes of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers.

Young Pioneers and Youth Union members directly carried out meaningful tasks such as: visiting and inquiring about the health of the mother, cleaning the house, wiping down the altar of the martyrs, cooking and eating meals with the mother; assisting the mother's family with house repairs and purchasing household items…

Furthermore, thanks to contributions from members, youth union members, and benefactors, the Youth Union at all levels has awarded hundreds of savings accounts and scholarships to children of families with preferential policies; and provided free health check-ups and medicine to thousands of people with meritorious service to the revolution and war invalids. The goal of this model is to educate patriotism and national pride; to create a strong connection between the younger generation and those who have contributed to the revolution, demonstrating the moral principles of "repaying gratitude" and "remembering the source when drinking water" of the city's youth.

In the context of today's digital technology boom, young people are easily drawn into the virtual world and individualistic lifestyles, making the cultivation of their thoughts, morals, and lifestyles even more necessary.

More and more schools, youth union branches, and children's organizations are paying attention to organizing "back to the roots" activities, visiting historical sites, and meeting with historical witnesses. Through journeys to historical sites, martyrs' cemeteries, traditional houses, or meetings with historical witnesses, young people can listen to and better understand the sacrifices of their ancestors in the struggle for independence and national defense. This instills in their hearts the seeds of gratitude and patriotism, contributing to nurturing in the younger generation a desire to live beautifully and responsibly towards their homeland.
