Following the first night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026, a large amount of trash was left behind on many roads and sidewalks along the east and west banks of the Han River, around the viewing areas and fireworks viewing spots. This prompted sanitation workers, volunteers, and youth union members to mobilize and collect the discarded waste.

This is the second year that Nguyen Phi Hung, a member of the Hai Chau Ward Youth Union, has participated in cleaning up the streets after the fireworks festival. The street cleaning was completed around 10:30 PM. “I’m very happy that my small action contributed to cleaning and beautifying the streets after the fireworks night. I hope that residents and tourists will raise their awareness, collect waste, sort it, and dispose of it in the designated places to maintain a clean and beautiful environment,” Phi Hung shared.

According to Nguyen Thanh Phong, Secretary of the Hai Chau Ward Youth Union, after the first fireworks display, more than 40 youth union members in the area, in coordination with the Youth Union of the Da Nang Port Border Guard, collected garbage along Nhu Nguyet Street and simultaneously raised awareness among residents and tourists about environmental protection. Some youth branches also collected recycled soda cans and plastic bottles to sell and raise funds for social welfare activities during the summer.

At the same time, more than 50 youth union members from An Hai ward simultaneously launched a cleanup campaign in the area east of the Han River. According to Nguyen Thi Thanh Long, Secretary of the An Hai Ward Youth Union, immediately after the first night of performances, the youth union members collected over 90kg of various types of waste, mainly empty cans, plastic bottles, nylon bags, and household waste.

The operation follows the principle of "Clean up each area thoroughly," ensuring that the environment is cleaned quickly and that no waste accumulates for extended periods. In addition, the Ward Youth Union implements waste sorting for recycling to support environmental workers with additional income from recyclable materials.

According to Nguyen Ba Duan, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union and President of the City Youth Federation, mobilizing union members, young people, and volunteer clubs and groups to clean up the environment after the fireworks display helped alleviate pressure on workers and spread awareness of environmental protection in the community.

During the following performance nights, the City Youth Union continued to mobilize young people to clean the streets, collect waste, and educate residents and tourists on maintaining general hygiene. This activity contributed to building an image of Da Nang as green, clean, beautiful, civilized, and friendly in the hearts of friends and tourists.
