Continuous heavy rain from the night of October 6 to 7, combined with the huge floodwater flow from the upper Cau River, caused serious flooding in communes and wards in the southern part of Thai Nguyen province.

The deeply flooded wards are Quan Trieu, Linh Son, Phan Dinh Phung... Many locations are flooded more than 6m, the average level is from 2 to 2.5m.

The water rose so quickly during the night and was larger than the highest flood peak in 2024, leaving people unable to react in time.

The North-South intersection, the intersection between Luong Ngoc Quyen Street and Bac Nam Street, in Phan Dinh Phung Ward, is usually less prone to deep flooding, but on the morning of October 8, the water level here was about 2 meters. The water could not drain, or drain slowly because the water from the Cau River overflowed the dike and pushed it in. According to local residents, only when the Cau River is below its flood peak and the river recedes can the floodwater here flow into the river, meaning the flooding here may last for a few more days. Some businesses from Pho Yen ward ( Thai Nguyen ) joined forces, using motorboats to rescue and support households that were deeply submerged in floodwaters. The boats were small, so they combined transporting people out and carrying food in. However, the elderly, children, and people in deeply flooded areas and in fragile houses were given priority for rescue and brought to safety. The community's contribution played an important role in rescue work in deeply flooded wards, so that the army and police could focus on protecting and reinforcing vulnerable dikes. While the rescue team used boats to carry out their tasks, households not affected by the flood gathered at locations close to the water's edge to be ready to assist. Many unflooded neighborhoods organized to cook hot meals and deliver them to households in the flooded areas. The solidarity of fellow countrymen in difficult times was shown and multiplied. A rescue boat attempts to reach a house that is flooded to the first floor in lane 141, Bac Nam street. This area has many alleys, and controlling a rubber boat is prone to collisions, tears, and punctures, requiring skillful skills and courage. At this house, the rescue boat brought two women and three children to safety. (Photo: TUAN SON).
