A 32-year-old male patient (from Ha Dong, Hanoi ) was admitted to Ha Dong General Hospital's emergency room with suspected foreign body in the digestive tract.
During the examination and endoscopy, the doctor discovered three large, hard lighters in the stomach. These are dangerous foreign objects that can easily cause blockages, damage to the mucous membrane, or perforation of the stomach if not treated promptly.

The hospital's Endoscopy Center held a multidisciplinary consultation (Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology, and Anesthesia) to ensure safety. Using specialized instruments, the team successfully removed all three lighters endoscopically. The procedure went smoothly without complications; the patient's health is now stable.
According to Dr. Nguyen Hop, Head of the Gastroenterology Department at Ha Dong General Hospital, endoscopic techniques help remove foreign objects quickly, allowing patients to avoid major surgery, reduce pain, and shorten hospital stays.
Doctors advise that if you suspect you have swallowed a foreign object, you should take note of the following:
- Absolutely do not try to swallow more food or try to dislodge it by sticking your fingers down your throat, as this can easily cause the foreign object to move and cause more serious injury.
- It is necessary to go to hospitals with gastroenterology departments for timely examination and intervention.
