3 female members of the new government

The government for the 2026-2031 term will have 23 members, including 3 women, comprising 1 deputy prime minister and 2 ministers.

On the morning of April 8th, continuing the program of the first session of the 16th National Assembly , the National Assembly passed a resolution on the structure and number of members of the Government; and simultaneously approved the proposal to appoint deputy prime ministers, ministers, and other members of the Government.

For the 2026-2031 term, the Government will have 23 members, including the Prime Minister, 6 Deputy Prime Ministers, and 16 Ministers and heads of ministerial-level agencies (including Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Giang who also serves as Minister of National Defense ). Among these, there are 3 female members: Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra and two Ministers, Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh and Ms. Dao Hong Lan.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra (62 years old), originally from Nghe An province; holds a high-level political theory qualification; her professional background includes a Master's degree in Educational Management and a Bachelor's degree in Literature and Language Pedagogy.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra

Ms. Tra had a long association with the education sector in Yen Bai province. In December 1999, she became the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province.

From 2000 to 2006, Ms. Tra served as Deputy Secretary and then Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union.

From 2006 to 2015, she successively held the positions of Head of the Propaganda Department, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Secretary of the Yen Bai City Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee.

In January 2026, she was elected a member of the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and subsequently served as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Yen Bai province.

From February 2017 to September 2020, she served as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council of Yen Bai province.

By October 2020, she was serving as Deputy Head of the Central Organization Department, Member of the Party Committee, and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior.

From April 2021, she served as Minister of Home Affairs and Deputy Head of the Central Organization Committee.

By October 2025, she will serve as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term. In January 2026, she will be elected as a member of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and subsequently elected by the Central Committee as a member of the Party Secretariat.

In April 2026, she will become Deputy Prime Minister of the Government for the term 2026-2031.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh

Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh (59 years old), originally from Ninh Binh; holds a senior-level political theory qualification; her professional background includes a Master's degree in Law and a Bachelor's degree in History.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh

During the period 2004-2001, Ms. Thanh held the positions of Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association.

In December 2011, she became Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department. In January 2018, she became a member of the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee.

In July 2021, Ms. Thanh was elected a member of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and subsequently served as Deputy Chief of the Central Party Office.

In August 2025, she became the Party Committee Secretary for the 2025-2030 term and the Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Central Party Committee.

By December 2025, she will serve as the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and the Standing Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In January 2026, at the 14th National Congress of the Party, she was elected as a member of the 14th Central Committee.

In April 2026, she will become the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the term 2026-2031.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan

Ms. Dao Hong Lan (55 years old), originally from Hai Phong; holds a high-level political theory qualification; her professional background includes a Master's degree in Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Production and Business Management.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan

Ms. Lan previously worked at the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs for a long time, holding positions as a specialist, Deputy Director, and then Chief of the Ministry's Office. In December 2014, she became Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and subsequently became an alternate member of the Central Committee of the 12th Party Congress.

From 2018 to 2022, she successively held the positions of Deputy Secretary, Standing Deputy Secretary, and then Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee. She was elected as a member of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In July 2022, she became Minister of Health, and in June 2025, she became Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee on Population and Development.

In August 2025, she became the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health for the 2025-2030 term. In January 2026, she was elected as a member of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In April 2026, she will become Minister of Health for the term 2026-2031.
