Hanoi will spend nearly 10,000 billion VND to upgrade and expand Road 70, specifically the section passing through Nam Tu Liem district, the Ha Dong - Van Dien section, and Tam Trinh road, in order to reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Highway 70 through Nam Tu Liem District : Highway 70 connects provinces in the Northwest region with Hanoi. For Hanoi, this road is considered a crucial link ensuring connectivity and promoting socio -economic development in the southern and western parts of the city. According to observations on February 6th, the road surface of Highway 70 in Nam Tu Liem District is only about 7-8 meters wide (in both directions). When traveling in the same direction, cars behind have to follow closely or encroach on the opposite lane to overtake. Motorcycles and bicycles only have about half a meter of road to travel. The bottleneck on Highway 70 (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi ) causes frequent traffic congestion. According to Lao Dong newspaper's investigation, to gradually reduce traffic congestion and accidents here, the Hanoi City People's Council has unanimously approved the investment plan to upgrade and expand Highway 70 (the section from Trinh Van Bo Street to the end of Nam Tu Liem District). The project is nearly 5 km long with a total capital of nearly 3,400 billion VND, with the Nam Tu Liem District People's Committee as the investor, to be implemented in the period 2022 - 2027. For many years, the section of Highway 70 from Ha Dong to Van Dien has become overloaded due to the large volume of vehicles it receives each day. "The roads are narrow and congested, especially with large trucks, so even a slight lapse in attention can easily lead to accidents. At night, when the roads are less crowded, convoys of dump trucks and container trucks race like crazy, roaring and tearing up the road surface," said Mr. Tran Huu Thang (55 years old, a resident on Road 70), adding that residents are hoping the city will soon find a solution to address this situation. According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the project to expand Road 70, the section from Ha Dong to Van Dien, has a length of over 5km, with a total estimated investment of 2,823 billion VND, to be implemented in the 2022-2026 period. After completion of the upgrade and renovation, the road is expected to become a foundation for socio-economic development as well as serving the transportation needs of the people. The Tam Trinh Road project was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in 2012 with a length of approximately 3.5 km and a total road width of 40m. This is a major route within the overall transportation plan of Hoang Mai district, tasked with connecting Ring Road 2 with Hanoi's Ring Road 3. Tam Trinh Road will be upgraded and expanded with a budget of over 3,350 billion VND. Construction began in October 2016 and was expected to be completed within three years. However, to date, the project remains stalled due to land clearance issues involving over 200 households in Yen So and Mai Dong wards. Tam Trinh Street is frequently congested during rush hour. At the end of 2023, the Hanoi People's Committee approved an adjustment to the implementation time of the Tam Trinh road construction project from 2016 to 2026, a delay of 7 years compared to the previous plan. The total investment for the project is 3,354 billion VND, an increase of more than 1,287 billion VND. The expansion of Tam Trinh road will serve the transportation needs of the people, reduce traffic pressure on the main roads at the southern gateway of the capital, and contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.
