Hojlund was chosen by coach Ruben Amorim to start the match at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Malaysia. However, the Danish striker did not score any goals during the entire 45 minutes of play.
He repeatedly made mistakes despite not being pressed hard by the ASEAN All Stars defense. The former Atalanta star also did not have a single shot on target in the entire first half.
Hojlund's rare highlight came late in the first half, when he received the ball in the penalty area and then passed it back to Patrick Dorgu for a shot. But Dorgu's shot was not able to beat goalkeeper Khammai.
On social media, Hojlund received harsh criticism from MU fans. One account commented: "He should not appear at Old Trafford next season." Another fan spoke up: "The opponent is less famous but Hojlund still looks harmless." Another fan commented: "The opposing goalkeeper is quite leisurely, not having to move much when facing MU strikers."
The Old Trafford club are said to have run out of patience with Hojlund after a disappointing 2024/25 season. The €77m striker scored just four goals in 31 Premier League appearances and a further six in the Europa League.
MU are ready to part with Hojlund this summer, but not many clubs can meet the 22-year-old's sky-high transfer fee. Inter and Napoli are likely to offer to loan or exchange Hojlund for another name in the squad.
