Recently, 6 palm civets were released back into the wild by Vu Quang National Park in coordination with relevant agencies. Previously, they were handed over to Vu Quang National Park by Huong Son Forest Protection Department for care. Photo: Ha Tinh Newspaper. The palm civet, also known as the palm weasel, has the scientific name Paguma larvata. This is a rare wild animal belonging to Group IIB, Appendix I (List of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals) in Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP, and is prohibited from hunting, captivity and trading without a legal license. In Vietnam, palm civets are distributed in provinces with forests. When fully grown, each palm civet weighs about 6 - 9 kg, has a body length of 650 - 75 mm and a tail length of 535 - 660 mm.
