Bloomberg financial news journalist Mark Gurman outlines several features that could be highlights of the iPhone 16, expected to launch in September of this year.

The Action button is on every iPhone 16.

One of the most popular rumors about the iPhone 16 is that all four models will feature a customizable Action button. While not a new feature, as it was already present on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, this is the first time a standard iPhone will also use an Action button.

According to Gurman, Apple will add new options to the lock screen and control center with iOS 18, thereby making the Action button less useful as users can add many different shortcuts to their iPhone.

Capture button for iPhone 16 Pro

Another rumor circulating widely is the Capture button. This is a completely new feature, not yet seen on any iPhone. Gurman says it works like a button on a DSLR camera: a light press activates autofocus, and a harder press takes a picture. Swiping along the button zooms in and out. It also allows for video recording controls.

According to Gurman, the Capture button may only be available on the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

Larger screen on the Pro version

According to leaked information, the iPhone 16 Pro will use a 6.3-inch screen instead of the 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 15 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will use a 6.9-inch screen, instead of the 6.7-inch screen on previous generations.

Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence is Apple's upcoming AI feature suite. It's not exclusive to the iPhone 16 but is also available for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. However, Gurman doesn't believe Apple Intelligence will boost iPhone sales.

New colors

Every year, Apple introduces new colors for the iPhone. Gurman notes that the green color of the iPhone 15 Pro will be replaced with rose gold. According to previous rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will come in black, white, rose gold, and gray, while the iPhone 16 Plus and 16 will come in black, green, rose gold, blue, and white.

New A18 chip

Finally, the iPhone 16 will use the new A18 chip. It seems the Pro version might use the A18 Pro chip. All four models will feature 8GB of RAM, the minimum required to run Apple Intelligence.

Based on his analysis, Gurman believes the iPhone 16 will not lead to record sales for Apple. However, 2025 will be much more interesting as Apple is planning to launch the iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 17 Air.
