At approximately 3:40 PM on February 18th (the 9th day of the Lunar New Year), a chain collision involving eight vehicles occurred on the Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway, at kilometer 74 in Cai Lay District (Tien Giang province), heading from the Mekong Delta towards Ho Chi Minh City. The vehicles included one sleeper bus, one 29-seat passenger bus, one 16-seat passenger bus, one truck, and four passenger cars.
The door of the sleeper bus came off after the accident.
At the scene, the vehicles were stuck together, with the sleeper bus ultimately impaled on the rear of the truck, and the sleeper bus driver was injured.
Because the vehicles involved in the accident occupied almost the entire road, it caused a traffic jam stretching for several kilometers.
The Trung Luong - My Thuan expressway was blocked for several kilometers after an eight-car pile-up.
Earlier that day, at approximately 3 PM, a three-car pile-up occurred on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway (at Km29, in Thu Thua District, Long An Province), heading from the Mekong Delta towards Ho Chi Minh City. As a result, three vehicles were damaged and a traffic jam stretching for several kilometers was caused. Authorities promptly responded to the situation.
