Professor Matan Gavish, founder of the Israeli startup Fatify, is pursuing an ambitious goal of changing the way the digital document world operates, aiming to replace the traditional PDF format with "smart documents" powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking to the press, Mr. Gavish stated that while the digital revolution has profoundly transformed sectors such as entertainment, e-commerce, and finance, document processing within businesses has remained virtually unchanged for decades.

"Facify's goal is to free people from administrative burdens. There will be no more paperwork in the old way, as automation will become a fundamental infrastructure," Gavish emphasized.

Factify was founded in 2023 in Tel Aviv and currently has approximately 40 employees. The company has raised a total of over $73 million through pre-Seed and Seed funding rounds, with the recent Seed round reaching $63 million – a remarkable figure for a business still in its early stages.

According to Gavish, instead of static PDF forms, Factify is developing a system of "smart documents" capable of communicating with each other, automatically extracting and filling in necessary data, minimizing repetitive manual operations. He likens this model to the shift from buying physical music to streaming it online on Spotify.

Observers believe Factify's idea could have a significant impact on document-dependent sectors such as insurance, healthcare , and banking. However, the company will also have to compete with major software corporations, including Adobe – the company closely associated with the creation of the PDF format.

Gavish, 46, was a senior lecturer in computer science after completing his doctorate at Stanford University. He believes that the rapid development of AI is forcing changes in both businesses and academic environments, with universities needing to focus more on creative thinking, technological ethics, and social responsibility.

According to the founder of Factify, the process of administrative automation could gradually unfold over the next five years. Gavish stated, "As things become faster, easier, and safer, the old ways of doing things will become obsolete."

Experts in Israel see this as one of many efforts by the country's technology ecosystem to leverage AI at the infrastructure level, not just in consumer applications, thereby opening up new avenues in data management and business operations.
