Ms. Tu Thi Mai Trinh, residing in Tan Hiep hamlet, An Xuyen commune, Ca Mau city, is a near-poor household with no land for production. She single-handedly supports her two children, who are of school age, by peeling garlic for hire, lacking the means to repair her dilapidated house. Thanks to support from the local government and her savings, her family now has a decent house. Ms. Trinh is truly overjoyed, as her long-held dream has come true, and she and her children now have a safe and secure home.
Ms. Trinh confided: “Before, my children and I lived in a dilapidated, leaky house. Thanks to government support and additional contributions from family, we were able to build this sturdy house. I am truly happy; this has been a long-held dream. Now that we have a house, I will work hard and save money so I can continue to support my children's education and overcome poverty.”
Many houses are nearing completion, creating opportunities for the poor to settle down and improve their lives.
Similarly, Ms. Phan Thi Nhi, residing in Hamlet 6, An Xuyen Commune, is a poor household with no land for production. Her life is a constant struggle, and she has to work various odd jobs to make ends meet. Since receiving support from the government and her family to build a spacious and sturdy house, Ms. Nhi couldn't hide her joy, because from now on, she and her children no longer have to live in a dilapidated house that leaked everywhere whenever it rained.
Nhi happily shared: “Due to our difficult circumstances, I never dared to imagine that one day we would be able to build a sturdy house like this. From now on, my children and I will no longer have to worry about the rain and wind. I will strive to overcome poverty and improve my family's life.”
According to the general assessment of the relevant authorities, the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has received strong support and consensus from the people and the community. The households receiving support have shown a strong desire to improve their lives, not relying on others, and actively engaging in production to develop their livelihoods.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Xuyen commune, said: "Following the directive on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, the locality has carefully reviewed the target group to compile a list for support. In addition to the budget from the province and the locality, the commune has mobilized philanthropists inside and outside the province, as well as relatives of the households, to join hands in helping. The completed houses will be a driving force for the poor to rise out of poverty in the future."
As of May 9th, construction has begun on 4,194 out of a total of 4,400 houses in the province, including 3,349 new constructions and 845 renovations, reaching 95.32% completion. 3,842 houses have been completed. Currently, four units in the province have achieved 100% of the project's target ahead of schedule, and two units have commenced construction at 100% of their planned targets. Therefore, the remaining 206 houses need to be completed in the coming period.
These houses, handed over just as the rainy season was approaching, brought warmth and hope to struggling families. These new homes are not only secure shelters but also the starting point for families to embark on a new journey to improve their lives and build a better future.
