Ms. Tu Thi Mai Trinh, residing in Tan Hiep Hamlet, An Xuyen Commune, Ca Mau City, is a near-poor household with no land for production. She alone has to support her two children who are of school age, with a job as a hired garlic peeler, and has no conditions to repair the dilapidated house. Thanks to the support of the local government, along with the accumulated money, her family has a spacious house. Ms. Trinh is really happy, because her long-time dream has come true, she and her children now have a warm and stable home.

Ms. Trinh confided: “Before, my mother and I lived in a dilapidated, leaky house. Thanks to the government’s support, and my family’s contribution, we were able to build a solid house like this. I am really happy. This has been my dream for a long time. Now that I have a house, I will try to work hard and save money to continue to raise my children and be determined to overcome poverty.”

Many houses are gradually being completed, creating conditions for the poor to settle down and improve their lives.

Similarly, Ms. Phan Thi Nhi, residing in Hamlet 6, An Xuyen Commune, is a poor household with no land for production. Her life is always short of money and she has to work many jobs to make a living. Since the government and her family joined hands to help build a spacious and sturdy house, Ms. Nhi could not hide her joy, because from now on, she and her children no longer have to live in a makeshift house that leaks everywhere when it rains.

Ms. Nhi happily shared: “Because of difficult circumstances, I did not dare to think that one day I would be able to build a solid house like this. From now on, my children and I will no longer have to worry about the rain and wind. I will try to escape poverty and develop my family's life.”

According to the general assessment of the functional sector, the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses received high support and consensus from the people as well as the community. Households receiving support are all conscious of rising up, not waiting or relying on others, actively working and producing to rise up and develop their lives.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhanh, Vice Chairman of An Xuyen Commune People's Committee, said: "Implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, the locality has carefully reviewed the beneficiaries to make a list of support. In addition to the provincial and local budgets, the commune has mobilized philanthropists inside and outside the province, and relatives of households to join hands to help. The completed houses will be the motivation for the poor to be able to rise out of poverty in the coming time."

As of May 9, the province has started construction on 4,194 out of a total of 4,400 houses, of which 3,349 were newly built, 845 were repaired, reaching 95.32% and 3,842 houses have been completed. Currently, the province has 4 units that have completed 100% of the project's target ahead of schedule and 2 units that have started construction and achieved 100% of the plan. Thus, the remaining number of houses that need to be completed in the coming time is 206 houses.

The houses were handed over at the right time when the rainy season was approaching, bringing warmth and hope to the families who were still struggling. The new houses were not only a solid place to live but also a place where families could start a new journey to rise up and build a better life./.
