Organizing the country's development space into 6 socio-economic regions

TPO - According to the Government's Resolution, the whole country is divided into 6 economic and social regions, of which the North Central and Central Coast regions will be split into two, one part of which will be merged with the Central Highlands region.

The Government has just issued Resolution No. 306/NQ-CP on adjusting the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

With the viewpoint that the national development space must be organized effectively and uniformly on a national scale, focusing on effectively exploiting the new development space brought about by the arrangement of administrative units, the Resolution has set out the orientation to organize the country's development space into 6 socio -economic regions, including:

The Northern midland and mountainous region includes 9 provinces: Lang Son, Cao Bang , Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La.

The development orientation of the region is to build the Thai Nguyen - Phu Tho industrial belt to become the driving force for growth of the whole region, connecting with Bac Ninh province as an inter-regional industrial belt. Build expressways, roads connecting localities with expressways, border belts, important national highways connecting localities in the region. Research investment and upgrade some airports in the region. Complete the construction of Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway; build Lang Son - Hanoi railway

The Red River Delta includes 6 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh.

This region will focus on developing modern industrial production and service sectors: electronics, digital technology industry, semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence, automobile manufacturing, supporting industries, trade services, logistics, finance, banking, tourism, telecommunications, high-quality training, specialized healthcare; rapidly developing new service sectors such as creative industry, technology finance, smart logistics, digital technology services. Developing the region to become a modern service center of Southeast Asia.

The North Central region includes 5 provinces and cities: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue. In particular, focus on developing the petrochemical, metallurgical, mechanical engineering, automobile and auxiliary industries, agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industries, and renewable energy. Build logistics service centers. Develop island tourism, eco-tourism and cultural-historical tourism. Restructure agriculture, forestry, exploitation, aquaculture and seafood associated with the processing industry, ensuring sustainability and high efficiency.

The Southeast region includes: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh.

The South Central Coast and Central Highlands region includes 6 provinces and cities: Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong. According to the development orientation, this region will promote the development of agricultural, forestry, fishery processing industry, and renewable energy. Along with that, develop large tourist centers associated with the specific potential of each region, forming tourist routes connecting the chain of mountain - forest - sea space and cultural - heritage space.

In coastal areas, new industries, high-tech industries, and digital technology are rapidly developing. Developing a chain of coastal urban areas is associated with the development of sea tourism centers, financial centers, economic zones, free trade zones, and industrial parks.

The Southeast region includes: Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh. The development goal is to become a dynamically developing region with high economic growth rate, the largest growth driver in the country; a center of science, technology and innovation, high-tech industry, logistics and a highly competitive international financial center in the region; a leader in growth model innovation, digital transformation...

The Mekong Delta includes 5 provinces and cities: Can Tho, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau.

According to the development orientation, this region will focus on a modern, sustainable, dynamic and highly efficient agricultural economy of the country, the region and the world. Focus on developing large-scale, modern, commodity agricultural production associated with processing industry and product branding; promote the development of digital agriculture and smart agriculture.

In terms of economy, the Resolution sets a target of striving for a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 10% or more per year in the 2026-2030 period. By 2030, GDP per capita at current prices will reach about 8,500 USD.
