On April 1st, representatives from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health announced that the health of the 10 students hospitalized with suspected food poisoning symptoms has stabilized, and they are responding well after two days of treatment. Currently, the Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-department, in coordination with the Health Department and the Nha Trang City Health Center, is collecting samples from the suspected cases for testing.

According to the Department of Health, at 10:53 PM on March 30th, three students from Nguyen Van Troi High School (Nha Trang City) were admitted to Khanh Hoa Hospital after eating noodles and chicken rice from a street vendor opposite the school. The three students were admitted with symptoms of abdominal pain and diarrhea, but were otherwise responsive.
By March 31st, three more patients had been admitted to Khanh Hoa Provincial Hospital with symptoms suspected of food poisoning.
Tam Tri Hospital also had two patients admitted, one from Yersin General Hospital in Nha Trang and one from Hospital 87, all with the same symptoms.
According to a representative from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health, initial findings indicate that these students purchased noodles and chicken rice from vendors outside the school gate, with each meal costing an average of 10,000-20,000 VND.
To date, authorities have identified three households that cook and sell food at the gate of Nguyen Van Troi High School. Authorities have contacted one of these three households in Van Thang ward and have taken samples for testing.
The Department of Health also advises parents and students to limit consumption of snacks sold by street vendors in front of schools. Food safety and hygiene are difficult to control in these areas. Furthermore, schools need to improve their canteen services to meet student needs, as eating is an essential part of their lives.
On the same day, the head of the Khanh Hoa Department of Health announced that the inter-agency steering committee on food safety and hygiene in the province had issued a document on strengthening the responsibility of state management regarding food safety and hygiene.
This move comes after a chicken rice poisoning incident at Tram Anh restaurant on Ba Trieu Street, Nha Trang City, which resulted in 369 people being hospitalized.
