On December 15th, regarding the suspected food poisoning incident at the Hong Van bread chain, the Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Hoang Giang, issued a directive to strengthen food poisoning prevention measures in the province and requested a prompt investigation and handling of the case.

Accordingly, the Chairman of Quang Ngai province instructed the Department of Health to take the lead and direct the Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) to coordinate with the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-department and relevant localities to urgently organize an investigation, collect food samples for testing, and determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
Based on the investigation results, the relevant authorities must strictly handle any violations of food safety regulations (if any), and report the results to the Provincial People's Committee before December 16, 2025.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested that medical facilities in the area focus their resources to provide timely emergency care and treatment for patients suffering from food poisoning, ensuring the best possible protection for people's health and lives; and proactively support localities in handling and mitigating the consequences.

The head of the Quang Ngai provincial government also requested increased inspections, including surprise checks, on compliance with regulations on food safety conditions for food production and business establishments, food service establishments, and street food vendors; resolutely suspending operations of establishments that do not ensure food safety, and recalling and disposing of food that poses a risk of poisoning.
Furthermore, it is necessary to organize training and update knowledge on food safety for relevant stakeholders; proactively allocate resources and develop response plans in case of food poisoning incidents in the area. Specialized agencies need to regularly review and monitor the food safety situation, and promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee to direct the implementation of preventive measures to minimize the risk of food poisoning incidents.

Regarding related sectors, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade to closely coordinate with the Department of Health in investigating the cause of the incident; to take the lead in tracing the origin and handling of the food poisoning; to regularly monitor the hazards and risks of food poisoning caused by pesticides, methanol in alcohol, and other risk factors; and to promote information and communication about the risks and measures to prevent and control food poisoning for product groups under their assigned management.
The People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones should proactively monitor the situation, inspect, and handle violations of food safety regulations by organizations and individuals producing and trading food, especially in food service and street food businesses; and promptly handle and report incidents, risks, and cases of food poisoning in their areas.

As reported by Vietnam Law Newspaper , from around December 13th to the present, hospitals in Quang Ngai province, including Phuc Hung Private General Hospital, Quang Ngai General Hospital, and the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, have received and treated more than 100 suspected cases of food poisoning after consuming Hong Van bread.
Patients were admitted with common symptoms such as abdominal pain, frequent diarrhea, vomiting, high fever, and headache; some cases required inpatient treatment for close monitoring.
Following the cluster of cases, the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Health established an inter-agency inspection team to investigate the bread production facility owned by Mr. Nguyen Hong (address: 280 Nguyen Nghiem Street, Cam Thanh Ward) and the Hong Van bread businesses in Cam Thanh and Nghia Lo wards. Initial inspections revealed numerous violations related to food safety and hygiene.

The People's Committee of Cam Thanh Ward has sealed all remaining food samples at the business stalls and at the establishment located at 280 Nguyen Nghiem Street; and simultaneously requested the Hong Van bread business to temporarily cease operations pending the official conclusion from the relevant authorities.
On December 15th, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) also sent a document to the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Health, requesting an urgent investigation and handling of the suspected food poisoning incident mentioned above, in order to ensure the rights and health safety of consumers.
