Accordingly, Boeing 787 flight number VN5001 departed at 3:34 PM from Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) to Long Thanh Airport ( Dong Nai ).
This was the first technical flight conducted by Vietnam Airlines to test and evaluate the overall operational system.
The aircraft used was a Boeing 787-9, registration number VN-A863, the largest wide-body aircraft type, with a maximum capacity of approximately 340 passengers.

During the load testing, the aircraft will perform all standard departure, approach, and landing procedures to assess the simultaneous coordination capabilities between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.
According to reports, preparations were largely complete by 2:30 PM.
Inside the passenger terminal, ACV leaders, along with contractors and related units, were present from early morning.
In addition, hundreds of workers and engineers here eagerly stood ready to welcome the first test flight landing at Long Thanh airport.
Outside the taxiway and aircraft parking area, several specialized vehicles are making final vacuuming runs to completely remove foreign objects such as gravel, concrete fragments, metal, or debris, ensuring the safest possible entry for aircraft.
Security measures have also been tightened to ensure absolute safety.
At 4 PM that same day, the plane landed on runway 1 at Long Thanh Airport amidst the overwhelming joy of everyone on board. The flight carried only the flight crew and technical staff; it did not carry passengers or cargo.

According to the plan, approximately two hours after landing, the aircraft will depart from Long Thanh Airport and return to Tan Son Nhat Airport , completing its technical flight.
According to ACV, before the test flight, construction areas on both sides of the runway were temporarily shut down or watered remotely to reduce dust.
Coordination efforts to ensure the safety of technical flights have been meticulously prepared, with key components such as runways, aprons, air traffic control stations, and technical systems largely completed.

Previously, the runway lighting system had been successfully tested, fully meeting the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), along with the ILS/DME precision landing guidance system, enabling aircraft to approach safely even in adverse weather conditions.
Calibration flights were conducted from September 26th to October 2nd, ensuring that Long Thanh Airport is ready to receive flights by December 19th.
On December 19th, Long Thanh Airport welcomed its first official flight.
According to the plan, after the test flight, Long Thanh Airport will welcome its first official flight on December 19th.
It is expected that three aircraft from three airlines – Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet , and Bamboo Airways – will depart from Noi Bai Airport, land at Long Thanh Airport, and then return to Noi Bai. Each flight will be spaced approximately 5 minutes apart.
