On December 14th, the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Health issued a document requesting hospitals and medical facilities in the area to focus resources on treating patients suspected of food poisoning after eating bread, and to report daily on the patients' health status and clusters of cases to the Provincial Department of Health.
By noon on December 14th, medical facilities had received and treated more than 50 suspected cases of food poisoning, some of whom have been discharged, while others are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
Mr. Nguyen Huan, Director of Phuc Hung Private General Hospital, said that from the afternoon of December 13th to 11:00 AM on December 14th, the hospital received 52 suspected cases of food poisoning. The patients reported having eaten bread at the HV bakery.
According to Mr. Do Ngoc Hoa, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Department of Health, samples of patients and food have been collected by the authorities for testing. However, it will take about 7 days to get the results.
Only after receiving the results can authorities determine the specific cause, the type of bacteria causing the illness, and the stage of the food chain at which it originated.
"While awaiting the results of the investigation into the cause of the poisoning, the Department has requested the HV bread chain to temporarily cease operations to facilitate inspection and sample testing. All related businesses have also been ordered to stop production, be sealed, and closely monitored to prevent further sales of their products," Mr. Hoa emphasized.
At the same time, the Quang Ngai Department of Health requested functional units to strengthen inspections of food safety conditions at food service establishments and street food vendors in the province, while also promoting the dissemination of measures to prevent and control food poisoning and foodborne diseases.
Previously, on December 13th, Phuc Hung Private General Hospital received 15 patients with symptoms including fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, high fever, and headache.
These individuals all stated that they had eaten bread from HV bakery at various locations in Cam Thanh ward, Nghia Lo district. Doctors there diagnosed them with food poisoning.
