On the morning of December 14th, at the special session (29th session) of the Hanoi City People's Council, 16th term, 2021-2026, a Resolution on the investment policy for the construction project of the Olympic Sports Urban Area was passed.
This is a key project, of very large scale, with special significance and importance contributing to the development of the Red River Delta region and the whole country.
The project is scheduled to commence on December 19, 2025, simultaneously with other projects nationwide (as directed by the Government, Hanoi is expected to be the main location for the groundbreaking ceremony, with the participation and guidance of central and government leaders) to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and at the same time, create a vibrant atmosphere of emulation entering 2026 with the goal of achieving double-digit economic growth, contributing to changing the face of the Capital city.
The Olympic Sports Urban Area project has a total research area of approximately 9,171 hectares, located in 11 communes: Dai Thanh, Ngoc Hoi, Nam Phu, Thuong Tin, Hong Van, Chuong Duong, Thuong Phuc, Binh Minh, Tam Hung, Thanh Oai, Dan Hoa, Hanoi city.
The project has a preliminary total investment of approximately 925,651 billion VND, with an estimated population of around 751,000 people.
The project aims to create a modern, integrated urban sports complex, well-equipped for Hanoi to host continental and international sporting events such as the Asian Games (ASIAD) or the Olympic Games.
The project is divided into four main functional zones: Zone A: Development of a new urban area based on the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model, serving as a transportation hub. Zone B: Development of a sports and service urban area associated with the world-class Trong Dong Sports Complex and Stadium.
Zones C and D: Development of sports cities and service cities associated with the Sports Complex.
Project implementation schedule: The sports complex and stadium will be completed in Q2/2030, and the entire project will be completed in 2035.
