Earning a decent income thanks to the application of science and technology.
Cam Hiep commune has nearly 330 households with 1,200 people of the Raglai ethnic minority, concentrated in two villages, Valy and Suoi Coc, whose main income comes from agricultural production. In recent years, many families have taken advantage of loan sources from national target programs and state support policies, along with their diligence, dynamism, creativity, and effective exploitation of potential and strengths, actively applying science and technology, and introducing economically valuable plant and animal breeds into production, thereby increasing product value and income.

In Valy village, everyone in the village respects Mr. Mang Xe. From a poor household, thanks to his bold implementation of a diversified production model, his family now has a stable income of over 100 million VND per year. His family owns a large area of hilly land, but previously only grew cashew nuts for their yield, which was low. In 2022, through training courses and field workshops transferring scientific and technical knowledge to ethnic minority communities, Mr. Xe boldly borrowed preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank to invest in planting durian and mango trees. To generate income in the short term, he intercropped bananas and custard apples, raised chickens and ducks, and dug ponds for both irrigation and fish farming. At the same time, he invested in an automatic irrigation system for short-term crops and a gravity-fed irrigation system for durian and mango trees to reduce labor costs. Thanks to hard work, diligence, and proper crop care techniques, some crops have now yielded harvests, providing a stable income; others are preparing to bear fruit. Mr. Mang Xe shared: “In about 1-2 years, the durian orchard will bear fruit and bring in even higher economic income. If successful, I will continue to support the surrounding people in developing their livelihoods.”

Helping each other develop economically.
Not only is he a role model in economic development, but in recent years, Mr. Mang Xe has also helped many households in the village with plant varieties and production experience. For example, Mr. Mang Vuong cut down nearly 1 hectare of low-yielding cashew trees to switch to mango cultivation. Mr. Mang Vuong said: "Previously, cashew trees only yielded less than 10 million VND per year. Seeing the high economic efficiency of Mr. Mang Xe's production model, I boldly borrowed capital from the Social Policy Bank to invest in plant varieties and irrigation systems… After more than 3 years of investment, the mango orchard yielded its first harvest, bringing in over 50 million VND. Thanks to this income, I have more resources to support my children's education and expand my planting area."
Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Hiep commune, said: "In recent times, many farmers in the two villages of Valy and Suoi Coc have boldly implemented effective economic models, generating stable income. These farmers are the 'nucleus' that spreads the movement of excellent farmers in labor and production, helping ethnic minority communities gradually change their mindset and awareness, and learn to apply science and technology in farming and livestock raising. In particular, through programs and policies supporting capital, plant and animal breeds, production equipment, science and technology, etc., ethnic minority communities have gained more conditions and motivation to overcome difficulties and rise to legitimate wealth. Currently, there are no longer any poor households in the two villages."
