HAIPHONG PORT WELCOMES 2 MILLION TEU THROUGHOUT THE YEAR – A HISTORICAL MILESTONE IN ITS 150-YEAR DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY

On the morning of December 14, 2025, at berths 3 and 4 of Lach Huyen Port (Hai Phong Port – HTIT), Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company solemnly held a ceremony to welcome the 2 millionth TEU handled in 2025. This is the first time in its more than 150-year history that Hai Phong Port has reached a throughput of 2 million TEU/year, and it also becomes the first and only seaport in the Northern region of Vietnam to achieve this special milestone.

The event was attended by representatives from the leadership of State management agencies, Vietnam Maritime Corporation ( VIMC ), port units within the VIMC system; and representatives of Hai Phong Port's valued partners and customers.

Mr. Nguyen Tuong Anh – General Director of Hai Phong Port – spoke about the important milestones of the year and announced the welcoming of the 2 millionth TEU through Hai Phong Port in 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, the General Director of Hai Phong Port affirmed: “The 2 millionth TEU is not only a milestone in terms of throughput but also a symbol of the maturity, deep international integration, and aspiration for advancement of Hai Phong Port in the new era.” This achievement reflects the strategic vision, determination to innovate, and continuous efforts of all staff and employees throughout the system.

Key highlights

2025 marks a significant milestone as container berths No. 3 and 4 at Lach Huyen officially commence operations, enabling Hai Phong Port to enhance its capacity to receive large-tonnage vessels, increase operational efficiency, and expand its service scale. This will directly contribute to the entire system's container throughput surpassing 2 million TEU.

Alongside infrastructure investment, the port has simultaneously upgraded equipment and technology systems, and promoted digital transformation in management and operation; implementing a smart port – a green port model, contributing to shortening ship turnaround time, optimizing logistics costs, and enhancing competitiveness. The seamless coordination among units throughout the system has created synergy, helping Hai Phong Port improve service quality, shorten ship turnaround time, optimize logistics costs, and increase competitiveness in the market.

Along with continuous modernization, Hai Phong Port focuses on developing high-quality human resources, expanding its service network, maintaining stable traditional customers, and attracting more new international container shipping routes.

Development orientation in the new phase

In the future, Hai Phong Port will continue to implement new port development projects at Lach Huyen and Nam Do Son, build a modern logistics center in the Xuan Cau - Lach Huyen free trade zone and Bach Dang industrial park, and promote the application of digital technology , automation, and the development of a green port - smart port model, aiming for sustainable development.
