Long Thanh Airport is ready to receive aircraft landings on December 15th. |
According to the plan, the Boeing 787 flight took off from Tan Son Nhat Airport and landed at Long Thanh Airport at 3:30 PM for load testing. This is an important technical flight before the airport welcomes its first passenger flights on December 19th.
The aircraft used was a Boeing 787 of Vietnam Airlines , the largest wide-body aircraft currently operated by the national airline, with a maximum capacity of approximately 340 passengers. Because it was a technical flight, the aircraft only carried the crew and technical staff; after landing, it will return to Ho Chi Minh City.
During the test run, the aircraft will perform all takeoff, approach, and landing procedures according to operating standards, in order to assess the ability to coordinate simultaneously between the two major airports in the Southeast region.

Air traffic control, engineering, meteorological, flight procedures, and rescue personnel have been trained and assigned shifts according to operational documents that have been validated through multiple rounds, meeting the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Convention on Air Navigation Services Providers (CANSO).
Previously, on December 10th, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority inspected the training on the flight simulator (SIM) for air traffic controllers at Long Thanh Airport, simulating scenarios such as bad weather, navigation equipment malfunctions, and aircraft emergencies. The evaluation results showed that the coordination and response capabilities of the control force met operational requirements.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), said that key items such as runways, aprons, air traffic control towers, technical systems, and ceremonial arrangements have been basically completed.

On December 19th, in addition to the first flight operated by Vietnam Airlines, two flights by Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways will also land at Long Thanh Airport, approximately 5 minutes apart.
According to the Ministry of Construction's plan, official flights will only be conducted when this afternoon's test flight fully meets all technical and operational safety specifications.
Phase one of Long Thanh Airport covers an area of 1,810 hectares, construction began in January 2021, with a designed capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. The project is expected to begin commercial operation in mid-2026.
