Ms. Lieu Thi Kim Phuong, Director of Viet Orchid Garden Agricultural Cooperative (Ho Chi Minh City), said that recognizing the potential of the market in two segments: gift orchid baskets and collectible Dendrobium orchids, the cooperative has focused on researching and developing in these two segments.

Over the years, when introducing Dendrobium orchid gift baskets to the market, Viet Orchid Garden has always maintained direct contact with consumers, listening to feedback and understanding the unique needs of each customer. Each customer feedback is carefully analyzed by the cooperative to guide research into new orchid varieties. Accordingly, Viet Orchid Garden focuses on researching three main color palettes: vibrant yellow, soft pink, and striking red.

In recent years, the segment of collectible Dendrobium orchids has attracted significant attention from collectors both domestically and internationally. In line with this trend, the Vietnam Orchid Garden Agricultural Cooperative has promptly seized the opportunity to meet the needs of collectors from both within and outside the country by researching and introducing unique Dendrobium orchid varieties such as the "striped leaf" and "lucky leaf" varieties to the market.

Ms. Lieu Thi Kim Phuong shared that, in order to have unique Dendrobium orchid varieties, the cooperative has used the fruit-pollination method. This is a traditional technique but requires meticulousness to hybridize the Dendrobium orchid varieties.

This process comprises four steps, the first being parent selection. In this stage, Viet Orchid Garden carefully selects Dendrobium orchids with superior characteristics, from leaf morphology to vibrant flower colors.

In the manual cross-pollination process, the Cooperative uses traditional cross-pollination techniques with high meticulousness and precision. Although this method requires time and effort, it allows for the creation of seeds with superior genetic characteristics, especially the rare striped and variegated leaf traits. After pollination, the seeds are sent to the Cooperative's laboratory for propagation.

The final step is planting and observation in the garden. After propagation, the seedlings are transferred by the Cooperative to the garden under controlled conditions and carefully cared for to develop and fully exhibit their morphological characteristics. The garden observation process helps the Cooperative accurately assess characteristics such as leaf morphology, flower color, and adaptability, ensuring that only the best plants are brought to market.

With a lab producing seedlings using tissue culture technology, a potted plant production garden ensuring a high survival rate after transferring plants from the lab to the garden, and a flower production garden to create beautiful, long-lasting flowers, coupled with thorough research into market demand, Viet Orchid Garden has won over consumers with its Dendrobium orchid gift sets and Dendrobium orchid collector's items.
