On December 7th, the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Institute of Literature under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences , organized a scientific conference on the legacy of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm from a modern perspective.
Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm (1491-1585) was a distinguished son of Trung Am village, Vĩnh Lại district (now Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm commune, Hải Phòng city). He was one of the outstanding figures of the 16th century, a multi-talented scholar with remarkable contributions in the fields of politics , ideology, education, and literature.

Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm not only left behind a vast treasure trove of Han Nom poetry and prose for posterity, but also a timeless legacy of philosophical thought. He is considered the embodiment of Vietnamese intellect and morality, a person who combined the essence of scholarly learning with folk knowledge, as expressed in his writings, prophecies, teachings, anecdotes, and the cultural and religious life of the people.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, emphasized that this is an important event aimed at identifying, honoring, and promoting the cultural heritage values as well as the contributions of the outstanding figure Nguyen Binh Khiem to the nation's history.
This provides a scientific basis for building a dossier to propose that UNESCO honor Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death (1585-2035).
After more than two months of implementation, the conference organizing committee received 59 papers from scientists, managers, and lecturers from various agencies and organizations nationwide.

The discussions focused on four main topics: the textual analysis of Nguyen Binh Khiem's works, Nguyen Binh Khiem's thought from a modern perspective, the integration of text, history, and philosophy in Nguyen Binh Khiem's writings, and the reception of Nguyen Binh Khiem's legacy in the context of contemporary culture.
Based on this, experts and scientists have affirmed that Nguyen Binh Khiem was a man of vast learning and great talent, who passed examinations and achieved fame in his chosen career path, and who always dedicated his life to the people and the country.
His life unfolded amidst the ups and downs of history under different dynasties, resulting in significant changes to Nguyen Binh Khiem's career, including three instances of resigning from his official position and retiring.
He was a great poet of the nation, both in terms of poetic artistry and the content he reflected. His poems accurately reflected the laws of change in nature and society, so later generations regarded them as prophecies, predicting future events hundreds of years in advance.

Therefore, Nguyen Binh Khiem was highly regarded by his contemporaries and posterity in many aspects such as morality, political talent, and literature. He became known as the "Trang Trinh" (a legendary scholar), a prophet whose prophecies were astonishingly accurate, and the tutelary deity of the village who protected the villagers.
All the honors bestowed upon him by the people, officials, the court, the state, and religious beliefs have affirmed that Nguyen Binh Khiem was a figure of significant influence in the nation's history; he was a true cultural icon.
