On the afternoon of December 15th, the 33rd SEA Games witnessed impressive performances from Vietnamese athletes, with Wushu and Athletics being particularly outstanding.

The first gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation on December 15th went to Wushu athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy in the women's 60kg Sanda event. Facing a Myanmar opponent, Thu Thuy completely dominated and secured an early victory in the first round due to a significant point difference. Continuing this momentum, Truong Van Chuong brought home the second gold medal for Vietnamese Wushu by defeating a Laotian athlete 2-0 in the men's 70kg Sanda event.

Thu Vinh and Quang Huy won the silver medal in the 10m mixed team pistol event.

In shooting, the pair Thu Vinh and Quang Huy competed in the final of the 10m mixed team pistol event. Despite their best efforts and moments of staying close to their opponents, the two Vietnamese shooters could not overcome the outstanding performance of the Indonesian shooters, and the Vietnamese duo suffered a defeat, winning the silver medal.

In the afternoon of the competition, Athletics continued to demonstrate its strength by winning three gold medals. Specifically, Quách Thị Lan excellently won the gold medal in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 56.82 seconds. The runner from Thanh Hóa province showed great composure, starting in lane 4, overtaking two strong competitors from the Philippines to finish in first place in the final.

Immediately after Quách Thị Lan, Nguyễn Trung Cường also won the gold medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8 minutes 55 seconds 32. The Vietnamese athlete overtook his Indonesian and Philippine rivals to finish in first place.

The next gold medal in Athletics went to Nguyen Thi Oanh. Vietnam's long-distance running queen continued to dominate her opponents in the 10,000m race with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93. Another Vietnamese athlete, Le Thi Tuyet, finished in second place.

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team performed exceptionally well in the final match.

In handball, the Vietnamese women's handball team delivered a convincing performance, defeating the Philippines 28-8 in the semi-finals to secure a place in the SEA Games 33 final. Prior to that, the team won all their group stage matches and are aiming to defend their top regional position. The final will take place on the afternoon of December 17th in Chonburi, Thailand.

Also on the afternoon of December 15th, in boxing, boxer Nguyen Manh Cuong advanced to the semi-finals of the men's 80 kg category after defeating a Timor Leste boxer 5-0.

In volleyball, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team entered the final against their long-time rivals, Thailand. Despite facing a strong opponent, the Vietnamese players performed exceptionally well, taking a 1-0 lead after the first set. However, the home team demonstrated superior strength, winning the next two sets consecutively, reversing the score to win 25-13 and 25-18 respectively, and taking a 2-1 lead.

Entering the fourth set, Thanh Thúy and her teammates continued their tenacious fight and won with a score of 25-23, taking the match to a deciding set. In the fifth set, the Vietnamese girls had a significant advantage but failed to capitalize. Thailand took advantage of the opportunity to win 25-23, closing out a super dramatic final match and securing the gold medal. Although they only won the silver medal, the Vietnamese team still received much praise for their courageous fighting spirit and proud performance.

At the end of the competition day on December 15th, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation had won 40 gold medals, 44 silver medals, and 68 bronze medals.
