On December 14th, as part of the rally program "Comprehensive Access to Healthcare through Innovation in Health", the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) and the Vietnam Young Doctors Association (Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union) organized a program applying artificial intelligence to provide free screening for lung cancer, cervical cancer, cardiovascular diseases, etc., for the public.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, President of the Vietnam Young Doctors Association, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health , and Vice President of the National Medical Council, stated that developing science and technology, innovation, and healthcare for the people are among the major orientations of the Party and the State.

Many smart healthcare models have been successfully implemented in various localities. In Bac Ninh , the smart healthcare model has initially applied artificial intelligence in X-ray image analysis, supporting the screening of respiratory diseases and lung cancer at the district level, helping to reduce diagnosis time and improve the professional capacity of doctors at the grassroots level through a remote consultation system.

In Hung Yen, the smart healthcare model focuses on managing non-communicable diseases based on a synchronized data platform, supporting early detection of at-risk individuals and building disease maps, thereby helping the locality be more proactive in managing public health.

According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, lessons from Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, and many other localities confirm that innovation is the key to bridging the gap between the grassroots and central levels of healthcare. When doctors at the commune and district levels can use AI to detect suspected cancerous lesions early; when health records are digitized and managed uniformly; when big data supports disease prediction and timely intervention recommendations; and when people in remote areas can access high-quality services without having to travel far, then we are closer to the goal of "leaving no one behind" in healthcare.

At the ceremony, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and AstraZeneca Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding and announced the establishment of the AZ - HUST Health Innovation Hub to promote research, technology transfer, and the development of smart healthcare solutions in Vietnam.

According to the agreement, the AZ-HUST Healthcare Innovation Center will be located at the AI4LIFE Institute of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The center's main activities will include research and application of AI technology, digital transformation in healthcare to facilitate early detection of non-communicable diseases, optimize medical examination and treatment processes, and support clinical decision-making; incubating and supporting healthtech and medtech startups; and connecting them with AstraZeneca's global A-Catalyst network.

In addition, the center will conduct pilot programs and verify digital healthcare solutions, bringing technology from research to practical medical examination and treatment; train and develop the capacity of doctors, engineers, and researchers in the field of medical AI; and promote interdisciplinary cooperation between universities, hospitals, research institutes, businesses, and regulatory agencies.

The center serves as a showcase for advanced medical technology solutions, contributing to Vietnam's stronger integration into the global trend of smart healthcare.

As part of the program, the organizers also launched a fundraising campaign to support people in Central Vietnam affected by floods, joining hands with the whole country to help people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives as soon as possible.
