In swimming, the qualifying rounds began in the morning with a host of key swimmers: Pham Thi Van, Nguyen Thuy Hien (women's 100m freestyle), Mai Tran Tuan Anh (men's 1,500m freestyle), Vo Thi My Tien and Nguyen Kha Nhi (women's 400m freestyle). Earlier, the men's swimming team had built momentum by winning the gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay, giving them a significant psychological advantage.
In the afternoon finals, the swimming arena promises to be explosive as Nguyen Huy Hoang makes his first sprint in his specialty event, the 1,500m freestyle – where he holds the SEA Games record. Tran Hung Nguyen and Nguyen Quang Thuan will also face the challenge of the 400m individual medley, raising hopes of extending Vietnam's swimming gold medal tally.
Meanwhile, athletics is back in full swing with the morning's men's 400m qualifying round featuring Le Ngoc Phuc and Ta Ngoc Tuong. In the afternoon, the spotlight is on Huynh Thi My Tien - the 100m hurdles specialist, who is in peak form and expected to make a big impact at this year's Games.
In the men's 400m race, Ta Ngoc Tuong's name continues to be mentioned frequently after his spectacular sprint at the 2025 National Championships, where he finished first with a time of 45.59 seconds, breaking the national record that had stood for nearly a decade, previously held by Quach Cong Lich.
The women's shot put (Kim Thi Huyen) and men's high jump (Vu Duc Anh) events also promise to deliver exciting competitions.
Not only are the two "spearheads" of athletics - swimming and gymnastics - but taekwondo and rowing are also entering important finals, opening up the prospect of another "shower of gold medals" appearing on December 12th.
After a stellar second day of competition, where they rose to second place with 14 gold medals, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation aims to accelerate strongly on the third day, consolidating their position in the overall medal standings.
In team sports, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will face Myanmar, while in men's football, the Indonesia-Myanmar match in Group C will determine Thailand U22's opponent in the semi-finals, concluding a day of anticipation and emotion.
