Spreading the spirit of innovation and mastering the economy.

In recent years, the women's entrepreneurship movement in Lao Cai has developed strongly, becoming a bright spot in the province's socio-economic landscape. Not only does it contribute to developing women's internal strengths, but the movement also creates sustainable economic models with local characteristics, making a positive contribution to poverty reduction and income improvement for the people.

These figures reflect a powerful shift from the grassroots, as women in the province become increasingly confident in seizing economic development opportunities in the new era.

We have identified supporting women's economic development as a central and ongoing task. Many women who previously engaged in small-scale, spontaneous production have now boldly built business models, registered trademarks, participated in the OCOP program, and promoted trade. The association not only disseminates information and provides training but also connects resources, facilitates access to capital, supports digital transformation, and enhances management capacity for its members.

Ms. Ha Thi Doa - Vice President of the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union.

As one of the women who received a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union at the conference summarizing the "Support for Women's Entrepreneurship Project giai đoạn 2017 - 2025" recently held in Hanoi , Ms. Pham Thi Xuan from Xuan Quang commune was honored as a typical example of Lao Cai women in economic development.

From her initial idea, she boldly invested in expanding the Xuan Huong Food production facility – a modern, safe food processing model applying technology, gradually establishing its brand in the market. Currently, the facility produces 4 OCOP products: salt-cured chicken, buffalo sausage, cinnamon-scented sausage, and chicken sausage; processing over 50 tons of meat annually, creating jobs for 7 workers with stable incomes. Annual revenue exceeds 600 million VND.

Ms. Xuan said: "If I hadn't participated in training courses on management, marketing, digital transformation, and received support from the Women's Union, I probably wouldn't have dared to expand production."

Xuan Huong Food is currently a prime example among young women entrepreneurs, generating high economic value, creating jobs, and contributing to the development of distinctive local products.

Not only in the food processing sector, the startup movement is bringing new vitality to the preservation of traditional crafts. A prime example is the Mong Style Brocade Embroidery Cooperative in Mu Cang Chai commune, founded by artisan Ly Thi Ninh. Originally a brocade embroidery cooperative operating since 2018, the cooperative was established in 2024 under a new model.

From small-scale home-based production, the cooperative now employs nearly 50 Hmong women, creating a shared workspace for weaving, embroidering, and sewing brocade fabrics, as well as displaying products for tourists. The cooperative currently produces a range of products: traditional dresses and blouses, bags, scarves, backpacks, and brocade paintings.

Ms. Ninh shared: “Thanks to the attention of the Women's Union at all levels, I have had the opportunity to learn from the experiences of many other localities, and at the same time participate in training courses on entrepreneurship and business startup, so I am confident in mobilizing women to work together in the economy using traditional crafts to escape poverty.”

Besides serving domestic tourists, Mong Style's products are also exported to markets in countries such as France, Japan, and Türkiye. By 2025, the cooperative's revenue is expected to exceed 1 billion VND, with members earning between 5 and 7 million VND per person per month, making a significant contribution to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.

In particular, Ms. Ninh's cooperative won the social impact award at the "Women's Entrepreneurship Ideas Competition 2020," with its innovative approach combining cultural preservation with tourism development and the export of brocade products. The success of Mong Style shows that entrepreneurship is not just about opening a business, but also about preserving traditional values with modern economic thinking.

To date, the province has supported the establishment of 55 cooperatives, 1,027 cooperative groups, and 32 businesses owned by women, while also promoting vocational training with 251 classes for more than 7,000 women, helping many to create sustainable jobs for themselves.

Many of these models originate from disadvantaged women, ethnic minority women, women in difficult areas, etc., which shows that the movement has reached those in need of support. Ms. Ha Thi Doa, Vice President of the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union, added: "In the future, the Union will advise on the implementation of the Project to support women's entrepreneurship in the period 2026 - 2035, focusing on enhancing product value, strengthening digital transformation, developing the collective economy, and supporting market access. We hope that each startup model will be sustainable and contribute to the overall development of the province."

The women's entrepreneurship movement not only provides income for women, but more importantly, helps women assert their role as key players in economic development. From the mindset of "doing extra work to help their husbands," many women have become business owners, cooperative directors, and community leaders.

The strong development of the women's entrepreneurship movement in Lao Cai is the result of the combined determination of women themselves, the support of the Provincial Women's Union, and the attention of the government at all levels. Many successful models have spread inspiration, proving that women can absolutely rise to become self-reliant in the economy and enrich their localities.
