"Going from street to street, knocking on every door" to spread awareness and mobilize support.
Suoi Coc village has 135 households with 470 inhabitants, mostly Raglai people. Their economic situation is still difficult, and their educational levels are uneven. Previously, due to isolated living conditions and a lack of information, many families still held outdated beliefs, including early marriage or consanguineous marriage. According to Mr. Mang Tam, the head of Suoi Coc village, about 10 years ago, consanguineous marriage and child marriage were the most challenging issues in the village. Recognizing the seriousness of this situation, the People's Committee of Suoi Coc village identified propaganda as a key task. Under the guidance of the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune, the village has implemented many comprehensive solutions, tailored to the specific characteristics of an area with a large ethnic minority population. The approach is to "go door to door," directly meeting with households with children of adolescent age to explain the harmful effects of child marriage and the consequences of consanguineous marriage on reproductive health and life. To increase persuasiveness, the village also collaborated with health officials to disseminate information through real-life stories about cases of consanguineous marriage and underage marriage, highlighting the negative impacts on health and life.

In addition, the village closely coordinates with organizations such as the Women's Union, the Youth Union, and the Farmers' Association to organize thematic activities in residential areas; integrating the content of propaganda on preventing and combating child marriage into campaigns such as: "All people unite to build a cultured life," "Day for the poor," or the movement "Living a good life and upholding moral values"... Mr. Mang Tam said: "At each village meeting, we always dedicate time to reminding people of the State's regulations on marriage age and analyzing why we must abandon this outdated custom. With regular and gentle explanations, people gradually understand."
Changing perceptions leads to changes in behavior.
Furthermore, the village effectively utilizes the role of influential individuals in propaganda and mobilization efforts. Village elders, religious leaders, and senior citizens serve as important bridges for conveying positive messages to the people. In addition, the village encourages parents to ensure their children receive a proper education, pursue vocational training, and find employment for a better future. When young people receive a good education, have stable jobs, and possess good awareness, the risk of child marriage and consanguineous marriage is significantly reduced. Village head Mang Tam shared: “We understand that to get people to abandon outdated customs, we must help them develop economically and stabilize their lives. Therefore, following the direction of the Commune People's Committee, the village focuses on reviewing poor households, advising on support for people to build houses; introducing loans from the Social Policy Bank; organizing training courses on agricultural techniques, applying new rice varieties, changing the structure of crops and livestock... When people are well-fed and their minds are clear, no one wants their children to be poor or sick because of early marriage or consanguineous marriage.” Many families who had considered early marriages for their children have understood the truth and avoided the mistake. More children in the village attend school, young people have opportunities to learn trades and find jobs, reducing the economic burden on their families. Thanks to the persistent and dedicated efforts of the Village People's Committee, from 2020 to the present, 18 households in the village have escaped poverty; and there is no longer any consanguineous marriage. Child marriage was recorded in only 1 case in 2023 and 1 case in 2025.
Ms. LE THI THU THUY - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Hiep Commune: In recent times, the People's Committee of Suoi Coc village has done a good job of disseminating information, mobilizing, and persuading ethnic minority people to comply with the Party's policies and the State's laws; encouraging people to abandon the outdated custom of consanguineous marriage and reducing the rate of child marriage. Through this, it has contributed to improving the quality of the population in collaboration with the local government.
The results achieved in preventing child marriage and consanguineous marriage in Suoi Coc village have not only contributed to improving the quality of the population but also promoted socio-economic development and improved the lives of the Raglai people in the locality.
