DT262 is an important road connecting the western communes and wards of Thai Nguyen province. These days, construction is progressing very rapidly along the section of the road passing through Tan Cuong commune. The drainage system is gradually being completed.
Previously, the road was severely degraded, with a width of only 5 meters and many potholes, making travel difficult for residents.
In 2024, the former Department of Transportation invested in renovating and upgrading over 3km, initially meeting the transportation and goods delivery needs of the people. In 2025, the Department of Construction will continue to invest in the remaining section of over 4km, divided into two phases.
Currently, the construction of a drainage system along both sides of the route is underway. Although the project uses road maintenance funds and lacks compensation for land acquisition, it has received strong support and approval from the people of the former Thinh Duc commune, now Tan Cuong commune.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich, nearly 80 years old, lives right next to the DT262 road. He was overjoyed when the road construction reached his doorstep at the end of 2024.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich shared: "We've lived here for decades. The road used to be in terrible condition; it was muddy when it rained and dusty when it was sunny. With the government investing in road construction, everyone is excited and willing to donate land for expansion. We hope the road will be completed soon so that people can travel more easily, and our children can study and work with less hardship..."
Not only Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bich's family, but nearly 300 households along the route through Tan Cuong commune affected by the project have voluntarily donated land and dismantled fences and auxiliary structures to facilitate construction.
Mr. Dong Duc Phuong, Vice Chairman of the Tan Cuong Commune People's Committee, said: "The section of Provincial Road 262 passing through the commune is more than 1km long. What is very commendable is that nearly 300 households along the route voluntarily donated land without demanding compensation, hoping that the road will be completed soon to serve the socio -economic development of the locality."

The project to renovate and upgrade the DT262 road has a total investment of over 13 billion VND, of which construction costs account for nearly 11.5 billion VND. The investor is the Road Maintenance, Consulting and Construction Board.
According to the plan, Phase I focuses on constructing the drainage system on both sides of the route, a crucial component in ensuring the durability and preventing flooding of the road surface after completion.
To date, the drainage ditch project has reached over 95% completion. The Transportation Maintenance, Consulting and Construction Board is focusing its resources and machinery to complete Phase I before December 15, 2025, as scheduled. Subsequent phases will be implemented as soon as the province approves them.
Investing in upgrading the DT262 route is also of particular importance in completing the transportation network in the western part of Thai Nguyen province.
Once the road is completed, it will help overcome the deterioration and unsafe traffic conditions, creating favorable conditions for the circulation of goods, the development of trade and services, and ecotourism , especially in the famous tea-growing regions of Tan Cuong.
