The overarching goal of the Green Tourism Action Framework to 2030 is to promote a comprehensive and thorough green transformation, thereby enhancing the efficiency, quality, and competitiveness of Vietnamese tourism, while ensuring a balance between economic development, environmental protection, and the preservation of socio-cultural values.
To realize this goal, the Action Framework identifies three key pillars, including: developing tools to promote green tourism ; institutional and policy innovation; and supporting the practical implementation of green tourism. The central action is the development and implementation of a set of indicators for sustainable tourism development, based on research into international experience and the practical conditions of Vietnam.
This set of indicators comprises five main pillars, developed through a pilot program in key tourist destinations before nationwide implementation. Simultaneously, research into developing a green tourism label that aligns with international standards has been identified as a crucial task. The green tourism label not only contributes to categorizing tourism products and services based on their environmental friendliness but also provides a foundation for businesses and destinations to participate more deeply in the global sustainable tourism value chain.
Along with technical tools, the Action Framework emphasizes the role of recognizing and awarding green tourism achievements and promoting innovative initiatives. Regular selection and awarding of prizes will contribute to timely encouragement of organizations and individuals leading the way in green tourism practices, while creating a positive ripple effect throughout the industry.
