Another Lunar New Year is fast approaching, bringing with it a festive atmosphere of family reunions and joyful celebrations as Vietnam welcomes the new year, and travel plans are becoming more vibrant than ever.
On December 16th, the digital travel platform Agoda announced that the number of Vietnamese tourists interested in traveling during this year's Lunar New Year holiday has increased compared to the same period last year, with a focus on domestic destinations.
Based on traveler searches in Vietnam during October and November 2025 for check-in dates between February 14-22, 2026, Agoda notes increased interest in both domestic and international travel during the 2026 Lunar New Year compared to the previous year's Tet holiday.
In particular, domestic tourism was the main contributor to the growth momentum during this Tet holiday season, with an increase of nearly 22%. Meanwhile, demand for outbound tourism increased only slightly, reaching 7%.
This trend also reflects the results from Agoda's 2026 Travel Trends Report, according to which 50% of Vietnamese respondents plan to travel domestically this year.
With the Lunar New Year holiday lasting nine consecutive days and the habit of using annual leave to extend vacation time, this is an ideal opportunity for Vietnamese families to reconnect, relax, and explore destinations across the country, instead of worrying about the complicated procedures of international travel.
According to Agoda, thanks to its cool weather and festive atmosphere, Da Lat continues to hold the position of the most popular domestic destination for the 2026 Lunar New Year, with a 44% increase in searches.
Surpassing Nha Trang, Phu Quoc secured second place with a 41% increase, attracting tourists seeking sunshine, beach lovers, and resorts with a variety of family-friendly activities.
Coming in third and fourth place respectively are Nha Trang and Da Nang , both cities renowned for their stunning coastlines and diverse range of recreational activities.
Vung Tau closed out the top 5 with a 31% increase, continuing to be a convenient getaway destination for people from Ho Chi Minh City who want to take short trips.

Singapore stands out on the list, taking second place with a 25% increase in tourism interest. Most notably, it has overtaken Tokyo, which was previously ranked third.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong made its mark in fourth place, recording a 46% increase in tourism interest.
Bali completes the top 5 list, further solidifying its reputation as a relaxing and culturally rich holiday destination.
